The same local authority that half own the land at Oakwell? That still has covenants on it?

Why would you want any non-footballing development to happen?!

Your last statement also makes no sense

I don't want to put the council down but the fiasco around the town centre redevelopment (which is now basically just the demolition of an obsolete building, a spruce up of the markets and a new library) can't be ignored. Ironically this plan failed because it relied almost completely on private investment but, even without a recession, attracting a third of a billion pounds was always going to be a pipe dream.

There's a cinema going to be built in the next few months on top of the Alhambra, this was initially rejected by the council because they wanted to build one in the middle of town despite having no budget for the building and no tenant lined up (they would be hoping for someone else to come in and pay for it just like the original town centre plans) - the only reason the cinema got the go-ahead is because the investors appealed to the European Union and rather than get into a fight with them the council backed down and granted planning permission.

The new building is part of (and completely funded by) the college, as far as I know.

Its private investors that own most of the town centre.....paul madeley oakwell construction owns the building on left hand side of shambles street now a gym...

norwich union owns multi storrie market car park and parts of town centre market

chuck into the mess the amount of stuff the coop own...

    plus other private investors

And you will find the mess that is barnsley town centre

pop in to the planning department and do a bit of research....you will be amazed what we dont own

with out leaving my self open....
lets just say questions that could be asked about the 60s in barnsley could lead to donny gate being but a pale shadow

the infomation is out there if you look.

Sir steve and his boys and girls have their hands bound with what they can and cant do.

one reason we didnt get meadowhall at dodworth was down to norwich union and their involvement in saying no
