Saturday 1.50 Mustashry 2ND 3.00 Expert Eye WON 1/1 [11/8 Advised] 3.40 Nakeeta/Teodoro/MUNTAHAA WON 11/1 [20/1 Advised] 2/3 =£63.68 to £10 level stakes [At advised prices] Meeting: 4/15 (26%) -£7.15 (-5%) to £10 level stakes. A small % loss on stakes for the week. Using the same methodology, I calculate that a blind £10 staked on all favourites throughout the meeting would have incurred a loss of £62 (25%), so at least we beat that one! Blindly following the Timeform top rated or their analyst's verdict in each race would have incurred a greater loss - demonstrating the need for selectivity. Yesterday's highlight for me was Muntahaa, given a superb ride by Jim Crowley (went wide for the first four furlongs, thus preserving his position in the field) who showed his Group-race winning class to score comfortably. Classier horses still will contest the Ebor next year, when it is scheduled to have a £1 Million prize pot. It won't look much like a handicap! Expert Eye was also pleasing in the third, and those who kept faith with Lord Glitters will have been pleased with his strong display. Through the week, the Mark Johnston winningmost trainer record was a highlight, with Frankie bringing his usual joyous exuberance to the party, and Sea Of Class looking like one of the best middle distance horses seen this season in the Yorkshire Oak on Thursday. The Nunthorpe on Friday wasn't one for the purists, with the two best horses failing to fully fire, but that allowed for a terrific finish between two Yorkshire-trained horses, with the Barnsley-born Bryan Smart's Alpha Delphini proving triumphant by a short pixel. The show rolls on to the Doncaster St Leger meeting now (12-15 September) about which more later!
I hate York! Have always hated it. Not a winner all week Was there on Friday which summed it up. 4 seconds and one of them was Mabs Cross. Grrrr...
