GG doesn’t strike me as a great orator and I think that’s why he’s coming in for a fair bit of criticism, particularly when compared to BM who certainly talked a good game. I would say though that being a good public speaker isn’t a prerequisite to being a good and effective CEO. Have you considered that GG may have been nervous last night or overly cautious considering this is his first job in English football and first move into the CEO position? Other posters have also commented that the Supporters Trust representative often talked over or answered for GG. That would certainly throw me if I were in GG’s position.
On a site where he sells himself. He's got ''English'' and ''Public speaking'' as Skills along with ''Negotiation'' and ''Public Relations''# He's a trained lawyer?
What like not offering players such as Hourihane, Winnall etc new contacts when asked prior to our promotion because we had plenty of time to sort deals out with them. Ben was excellent on communications but let’s not forget he’s partly responsible for our team getting broken apart due to not looking at extending our players contracts earlier. I recall this as I asked him specifically when he went on the radio barnsley show.
Whilst looking for a belt. It’s reight though, I don’t get folk who have issues yet choose against using the best platform to air them.
Because it's easier to sit safely behind a keyboard and criticise than risk having their argument spiked by people who know what they're talking about.
Was that really the best platform though? Can you honestly say someone could have asked a controversial question without poisoning the atmosphere and also getting a straight answer? Can't see it.
Is a fairly rigid orchestrated public forum where evasiveness and inability to answer even basic questions genuinely the best platform? I’m not saying there is no place for these events but in reality it’s more about PR than communication.
Can you imagine Hemsy addressing the gathering with the concerns he regularly highlights on here? Calling Hecky "him", talking about the "former Barnet man" and suggesting we don't compare well with Man City and Chelsea. People would wonder what the **** he was talking about.
Can you imagine me asking how we managed to lose one million pounds in a relatively successful season? Would be about as popular as a gay man in Baghdad.
Someone asked GG about the media at the club. It’s hardly controversial and he gave a long and detailed response. Hemsworth was there, so he had a prime opportunity to air said issues. But didn’t. Hence my response tonight to his latest online post about media at the club. In more general terms, I dunno pal. I don’t believe anything controversial was asked so dunno if they’d have been answered. I actually believe it was an opportunity missed. I could think of a few great questions I’d have asked were I not now at the club. Nobody asked them though. Some questions were bizarre or boring. Not sure that’s the fault of the two men waiting for questions.
If you call a meet8ing at There are two issues that dwarf everything else surrounding the club at the moment: 1: The takeover 2: The immediate future of the manager That's what Barnsley fans want to know about. Everything else is paltry in comparison. But neither speaker yesterday could really address those. It was a no win situation for everyone really.
It wasn’t a club staged event. No PR exercise. The Trust invited both men who accepted the invite. Anyway, it’s late and I’m knackered so apologies if I don’t hang around. Safe trip to Norwich mate if you’re going. Exactly 80 years since we last won there. We must be due!
