I think Jerry's email list still exists (or the yahoo groups version where it ended up). There are still people subscribed but rarely any emails. I guess technology moved on although their used to be some great posts on their. BarnsleyFC.org.uk is 10 years old next summer!
Re: why do people have to announce they are leaving? There's also the requests we get from time to time where people ask for thier account to be deleted. I don't really get that, why don't they just not login again? ( I ignore them usually as its unnecessary work and we wouldn't want someone else coming along and using the same name)

I used to know Jerry very well having been one of the originals myself. He used to work at BT in Sheffield but not seen or heard owt for ages.
I'm not so sure it was that old. I think it all started in 1994 (perhaps 93), but I stand to be corrected. It's a pity no one thought to preserve some of the early incarnations of the e-mail list and the web portal. I remember accessing it through my early 90's CompuServe account via a painfully slow modem - hell of a lot faster than the odd Chron posted out to me half way across the world though!
