Really enjoyable read. Don't mind the padding and the Ronnie Corbett-esque deviations are entertaining. But I nearly gave up with severe scrollitis because of all those extra line spaces... Haven't been to Spotland since Saturday 9 December 1978. Rochdale 0, Barnsley 3. 2,000 Barnsley fans trekking across the pitch at half time when we fancied changing ends. Rochdale reversed the scoreline at Oakwell the following April in front of the Yorkshire Television cameras. Don't think the YTV people accepted the Reds fans' exhortation to "shove your flipping cameras up your ar*e!".
The only way Rochdale will get bigger crowds is if Man Utd suddenly folded, they are after all a Greater Manchester suburb, got some good pubs though
We should be getting around 500 more regular home fans right now. Might not sound a lot, but it's more than achievable.
Same problem for Oldham. Trying to get people in the area down to their 3 sided struggling league one ground, when they can just be glory hunters for the best two teams England has which are just down the road for them.
Was in Rochdale last Friday. High street not bad. Visiting friend. Came back over Saddleworth moors through Holmfirth
So in summary you went to Rochdale wearing a gay scarf after being called Dr Who, loved up Keef and AFC Rochdale while enjoying a few pints? Talk about long winded
I think you missed the point, mate. I never suggested Tarn and Dale fans loved each other. I said that we were intertwined by events over the years. I don't do these blogs for anything but my own pleasure. Sumat for me to look back upon. A diary, if you will. But I do enjoy getting both negative and positive responses. Much better than being ignored. And I thank you for reading them. There are many on here who never reply to them so I suppose they don't read them. They aren't missing much, let's be honest.
The kid was called Rusty in the Adventures of Rin Tin tin . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Rin_Tin_Tin But did you mean TinTin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Tintin
Enjoyed reading that, Whitey. I find your interest in other clubs errr, well, interesting. And to be commended, as is arabian_ian (although he is a more regular supporter!). The facilities at Spotland do indeed look good. What I mean is, I don't think personally I could support another team, although when I was 15 or so I actually went several times with a mate to Elland Road to watch Hunter, Bremner, Giles and co. And I drove past Elland Road today, twice, on a 350 mile round trip - in torrential rain. Are you back on the train now, or time travelling?
I don't support any other team. I am a Tarn supporter. It starts and ends with BFC. I just thought I'd go watch a different club whilst we were on a break, and as I said in the blog, Rochdale are probably the perfect 'second team' due to the connections I mentioned. And they're local. For me anyway. Closer than Tarn. It was good to be unattached, to not feel that horrid feeling when the opposition are attacking etc. But the lads I went with and the day out itself were what it was all about. Back to normality this weekend. Kind of. A bit of a tricky game for me, as I'm sure some of you will recognise. Bloody football. I love it.
