My view on keeping faith with the squad and not bringing many in

But do resign someone only to find out (later) that they are not good enough?

    Allen,

I agree with everything you say in you piece. The slight complication to all this is regarding the out of contract players.

Should Mr Ritchie resign ALL of the out of contract players just so he can "give them a chance" (out of loyalty) at a higher level?

IMHO this would be madness. If a player becomes available that (in the managers opinion) is better than one he is considering re-signing, he MUST go with the better player?

    The complications...

Personally, yes, I'd re-sign Kay, Austin, McPhail, Reidy, Shukes, Hassell and Colgan if they want to stay.

Wouldn't any of the ones who weren't good enough to get in this season's team though.

    Only kidding , mate

I do think , though , that we need to toughen up . After watching the Championship Play Off Semi's and Final, the one thing that struck me most was the physical side of the game being overlooked by the officials . There wasn't one corner taken that didn't involve acts of GBH right under the referees' nose , all of which went unpunished . Somehow I don't see Paul Hayes being the kind to grab a defender by the neck and throw him to the ground , just to make a yard of space for himself . However,I DO see the likes of Horsfield,Windass and Shipperley being able to "look after" themselves .

Just been on the web site and Conlon,Carbom going this summer.Carbon at the begining of this season looked fitter, but the same old injury probs started. So we do need players and everyone seems to be mentioning Chopra and yes i too think he will be a great addition to the side.Interesting to see what happens ti Flinders,a great goalie unfortunate this season to Colgan's great displays.I hope the rest of the squad stays like Hassell,Mcphail,Colgan,Shuker,Reid.

Some reports say eight players out of contract others say five?

Ritchie says 2-3 players Coulsan will be one from Scarboro

I don't think Lucketti will last very long in the Prem

He looked like a bit of an insurance policy taken out by Warnock during the run-in.

There is also Martin McIntosh at Huddersfield - plenty of Championship experience. He only went to Huddersfield last year, so presumably still under contract.

    Good shout on McIntosh

Warnock signed a number of experienced players on short term contracts for the second half of the season :- Flitcroft , Dyer , Lucketti , Horsfield . Although I DO believe that the Horsfield signing was to have been made permanent this summer .

RE: Sturrock dropped Hecky as he brought in

Whilst he's plenty good enough for the Championships, he was 3rd choice left back at Hillsborough. He's definitely not as good as John Hills who had a very good season when he was fit, and about on a par with Gilbert (who as Varley states is one of PS's favourites from Argyle AND very much one for the future at 22/23).

I reckon he'll do you a job - no need to panic over LB.

    Good Stuff

Hecky has been very steady at left back.

    Only trouble is...

Not sure how old he is - but can't be far off my age!

    Definately wrong side of 30.

RE: Paul isn't the fastest though, is he?

Matts main problem was he didnt have the mental toughness to overcome his injuries

RE: Interesting to read differing views on the type of signings required

Agreed, we have to have some experience.
