Not guilty! They are everywhere in the pubs round here, think Altona 93 is prevalent and then another to do with dinosaurs. Very vocal, amazing to see the upward curve they've had since I moved here a decade ago. Crowds from around 300 to now pushing 2,000. 2 promotions, so many near misses in playoffs (again this year) and there has been a big uproar about a new ground and the owners who bailed the club out a few years ago just doing it as a development opportunity. Think its gone to govt to decide on as it would involve building on MOL land which is illegal.
Rhyl fc. Half a mile away. League club probably liverpool or everton as tranmere and wrexham in conference
Haha, I didn't see them last season, changed a lot from when you could leave the front door and be in your seat with a beer in 5 minutes. They've tended to be pretty high scoring and Oztumer was the lynchpin in midfield getting 20-30 goals a year til he left. Daniel Carr went to Huddersfield but think that didnt work out, and generally they've kept getting very good young athletic guys with a tendency to pass rather than hoof which is more the norm. Got one seated stand down the side (sainsburys right next door) with a bar and gym facilities, rest open terrace. The plans submitted are for a ground with around 4000 capacity, but a plastic pitch so fans are unhappy they could never get to the league like Forest Green. The developer wants to build around 150 units (flats and townhouses) on the current site, but with a station near too, and a possible parking zone coming into force, the plans don't seem to address local concerns. But then locally, theres a lot of opposition with the land they want to build on, and someone researched the companies involved, and tracked them back to the Barclay Brothers and a Cayman Islands trust. Should be getting heard in the coming months, so we shall see what happens.
I've put them on my list for clubs to visit, might not be this coming season though. Already planned far too much!
I reckon Dulwich would be an interesting club to see in the football league. I'm half wanting to see it happen. Sent from my WAS-LX1A using Tapatalk
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dulwich_Hamlet_F.C. Explains the altona 93 link, as both teams were formed in the same year. Lots of families come, the local butcher sets up a little kiosk near the entrance and cooks burgers, and you used to be able to sit in the bar, perch on the window and watch the game if it was a bit Baltic... but too busy for that now. http://dhst.org.uk/support-our-stadium/ And that's a little bit about the ground development from supporters trust perspective, which once completed, the owners are planning on creating a fan ownership structure (they've been very open they want to make money off the build of 150 flats at the side of the local sainsburys, part of the site is a car park and car wash which you walk through to enter the ground
No football team play at Shaw Lane (any more).......local league shock announcement in the offing, if it's not public knowledge already. Oh and Penistone Church to answer the OP.
Oakham Utd, of the United Counties League Div 1 (3.4miles away), nearest league team Leics at the King Power, (13.8 miles away), nearest Championship, Forest (21.7 miles)
They're in negotiations with another local team, as I understand it. No longer tenants at the rugby club.
