Anywhere else on the pitch it is a clear foul, so it is a nailed on penalty.

Having now seen it back then I'll change my view, absolute nailed on penalty.

Called it during the game much to the amusement of the folk around me, he's gone with his arm into his head.

Soft or not. My view, if its a free kick anywhere on the pitch then it's a penalty kick.

I thought it was a penalty. If a similar challenge happens to one of our players, then I expect it to be given, too.

Didn’t see it real time, was focused on my Monster Munch. No complaints, looking at the replay. TBH I think he was very lucky to still be on the pitch. Others would have given a straight red for that.

My initial reaction was that no way it was a penalty,
After seeing it back ref was 100% correct

No chance that would happen we get nothing from refs Defo a pen on second viewing as fuming at first but ye leads with his arm unfortunate but it’s a pen not a red though as he’s not looking at the man

From my seat in front of my laptop, I'd say it was a penalty and McGoldrick was lucky not to get a yellow card. It wasn't malicious just clumsy and awkward (he'd just managed to untangle himself from a grappling match with another Burton player, maybe raising his arm in self defence as the Burton lad ran into him).

It gives me an uneasy McGeehan feeling - no card at the time same as McGeehan and the EFL/FA looking at the replays. I'll breathe a sigh of relief at the end of today if he hasn't got a 3-match ban.

He can’t get a retrospective ban.

They can only take retrospective action if the incident was missed - so the fact he wasn’t booked is irrelevant. The fact the challenge was seen and penalised means that’s the end of that in terms of law.

Also, whilst he may catch him with the elbow/upper arm, there’s clearly no intent and so it wouldn’t meet the criteria for violent conduct - and it really isn’t a case of serious foul play.

Though like I say - moot. Ref saw it, ref punished it. That’s that.

I watched the efl highlights last night.
Brum v Ipswich. 3 very poor non decisions. And a couple of poor Incorrect decisions.

This is a freeze frame from my telly. Looks like the ball had gone past McGoldrick & possibly their player before they collide.

McGoldrick seems to have a straight arm and has jumped earlier than their lad with sideways momentum.

Still can’t be sure if McGoldrick got anything on the ball, or if it was a pen though.

I think the most important thing here is that McGoldrick isn't looking at the player.
