Don't know the two guys involved - they seem like decent fellers though. But is there a trace of an argument here about having a more professional output, and linking with the primary source of local coverage of the club? Clearly, RS do some sort of ongoing commentary already (even when we're not a featured match) in order to put those soundbites of key moments together on their Saturday show. I can see how this might fit in with an agenda to streamline and professionalise the club's image. Let's face it, folk have grumbled enough when we have not been very professional (Stones transfer fee, catering shambles, scoreboard, etc). Might be a bit harsh on Ben and his troops to go at them for this. I'm not really arguing the point - just saying there might be another way of looking at it? Anyway, I really miss Celebrity Monkey!
Good read that and I particularly enjoyed listening to the audio piece at the end. Makes me look forward to the new season even more. Strange though to hear him say he might not attend matches next season. Surely if ur a fan, which Matt clearly is, nothing would stop you going. I don't know his personal circumstances obviously but it just seemed odd to hear him say that
So it's taken them almost 2 decades to realise we aren't "Professional" enough for them? Ok. No wonder they think it's fine to treat decent folk the way they do when people make excuses like this for them. :/
If you were sacked by Asda when you'd done nothing wrong and you considered yourself to have done a good job over 19 years would you still shop there? I will still follow the club's fortunes, I can't justify paying to attend while ever the present regime run the club.
I'm coming across as bitter and twisted now, which I promised myself I wouldn't do, but this has been a very bitter pill to try and swallow and no matter what excuses BFC have made for discarding us I don't accept them. There's no turning back now though as this would mean them having to admit they made the wrong decision in the first place, which as you all know is never going to happen.
No I probably wouldn't carry on using Asda in those circumstances but your home town football team is quite different. From an ordinary fan's point of view I don't care who is running the club just so long as they keep it going. I'm really sorry about the way you have been treated Matt. I have been an exile for most of my adult life only returning to the area two seasons ago so I used to listen in virtually every week. You and the lads have done a great job over the years and it's sad it has to end this way.
No pal it's difficult not to have those emotions and feel like you do. Especially when for years you think you've been helping the club that you love, what with how parlous the finances were and how we were (are ?) dependent on the owner's generosity. Only to find that when it comes down to it the new era of fan engagement and stronger together etc are apparently belied by actions. Whether that was the intended result who knows ? But I know exactly how you feel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
FAO: P.O.R. I know what you mean but to attend as a non-commentator would be too hard for me. I've done my bit for BFC by purchasing season passes for my son and daughter; my parents are also season pass holders and I hope the team can push on under Lee Johnson.
It used to be the case that the BBC paid all local clubs for specialist coverage. Don Rowing told me this. Not sure if that's still the case but could offer some explanation. The club asked me to take on their Twitter feed but refused to pay even travel expenses, they have also made lots of other match day staff who were being paid peanuts redundant. It seems very harsh and pointless. I wonder if the big earners have taken a pay cut too?
Fact is, it hasn't been a warm and cuddly club since John Dennis bowed out. And I'm not saying that ethos was down to him, but the club has changed with the ones who came after. The 'spirit' of the club is with it's history, the ground and the fans, and not the current owner/administration - even though we may have different things to be grateful to them for.
