Surely it is down to him,he’s in charge of them, makes a mockery of having an academy if you’re not bringing anyone through.

Over the last 10 years our academy has been more successful than ever before. So that’s definitely not an argument against any of the current staff.

I meant more in terms of them getting picked for the first team? As far as I'm concerned we've had a few come through, Styles, Brown, Palmer, Moon, Walton off the top of my head

Jack Walton signed for Barnsley as a teenager, and the u23s was a big part of his development. Not sure why the work of our academy should be discarded because other clubs let someone go in their teens.

Yes but Devaney is responsible for the u23s which is where they went before breaking into the first team He isn't responsible for the youngsters, that's more Hassells remit presumably?

Correct, when he was 15. He even won Academy Player of the Year Award.

Jacob Brown aged 16 was freed by Wednesday. He spent a couple of years with Guiseley until he was 17. We then picked him up and developed him through the under 18and u23 teams.

We developed him. He is just as much our player as someone we had signed from the Barnsley area in similar circumstances. The initial Wednesday connection is meaningless.

Jasper Moon Let go by Leicester when he was 16. Again we then developed him in the u18s and u23s. The initial contact with Leicester is meaningless.

I do know that there is talented young footballers in South Yorkshire and so did big Eric, identify this young talent instead of taking loads of other academies cast offs.

Presumably they're at the dee dah academies. And the really stand out ones from our academy I would imagine get poached by the Prem clubs I honestly don't see where they live matters, what matters is that when we get to u23s Disco has some ready to step up, and on the whole I think he does.

Its 2020 not 1990. These days clubs like Citeh will hoover anyone good up and offer the much more than we can with better facilities.

Mick McCarthy played for Wosborough before joining us so we presumably don’t class him as home grown.

Times have changed and quite rightly we have changed with them. Look at the football leagues how many players playing at a decent level from Barnsley have not been through our academy system at one point. Where are these legions of Barnsley players playing that we missed.

Moon is just as much a Barnsley player as Stones was.

A few years ago the PL clubs offered a bit more of a financial sweetener to change the academy sets ups and give huge advantage for recruiting to PL teams with the best academies.

We're tier 2 status, which means we have a fixed net from where we can scout our youngsters. The problem is, PL teams have a much bigger net that overlaps our territory meaning they can fight it out between them for the very best youngsters in our catchment.

Its then a case of a parent, or the kid themselves, stating they want to come through our youth set up rather than an elite set up with more coaches and better facilities.

We can also have our young players poached young if they are really very good. So the best likely route of getting good ones is looking at clubs who are casting off players who aren't going to be PL players, but could do well further down the leagues.

We've got quite a few kids this way, and quite a few have found a way into our first team set up.

I have to say I don't get the calls for a Hassell and/or Devaney managerial appointment. Neither has management experience, they've both stayed in current roles for a considerable time so dont seem too bothered about moving into that role and both have been here across numerous management changes and not been appointed.
They may be the next Clough and Taylor but I really don't see what there is to go on that suggests they're the answer to our problems.

Why in the world of christ would we want redfern, devaney or hassell anywhere near our first team?
They've done **** all and achieved **** all in any kind of managerial roles

Why is no one using any logic? If you’ve invested in someone with a 3 year contract & there’s huge issues behind the scenes & lots of players who’ve been injured / unavailable why would you sack him before he’s had a chance to work with a close to full strength side? It just doesn’t make any sense.

Even if you have doubts you’re still going to want to see if he does any good once he has a decent side available to him otherwise you’ve just thrown away a load of money.

History tells me that Barnsley never have much squad depth at championship level as we don’t have the budget for it. Whenever we do we’ll it tends to correlate with us having an almost full strength side.

Schopp may turn out to be useless I don’t know but I think the board will give him a fair crack at it before deciding.

The logic is that the odds suggest he's not up to it. He can't organise or galvanise a weakened side. We know that for a fact. Struber and Ismael did exactly that. Schopp may turn out to be a good manager but if I had to put my mortgage on it I'd say there's nothing to suggest he will.
We need to be brave enough to change before it's too late and the window of opportunity to successfully do it is closing rapidly.
