Hm, ok looks like he went there at the end of last season, maybe just to help them out until the end? I thought he had retired from playing altogether.

I think he's retired and come back out of retirement a few times or be honest. Heard around this time last year that he was playing for Hyde, who were bottom of the conference.

Cranie is a RB. And my point is we have players who are playing that position well right now, we are desperate for a CB and LB. Just wish it was one of those we'd brought in.

I honestly can't see Holgate as a CB in senior football either. Not unless he does some serious growing.

I'm total opposite to you ponty I think holgates future is at centre half and sooner rather than later

Cranie is a funny one. I see him as a holding midfielder myself. Suppose we can call him a utility player. Bit like Bobby, but not as good and more expensive. As for Holgate, he's played centre half for much of his time in the academy. You might be right about him, but he's 18, Stonesy was just the same a couple of years ago, now he's a beast.

I think my point is a fair one. We've no recognised right back. Well, now we have one. And perhaps this was too good an opportunity to pass up and so we took the lad before others did? I don't think we're in a great need for a left back. Dudgeon is decent, Nyatanga can fill in, and we've Smith and Templeton coming through.

Agree on centre half, kind of, but fancy Cowgill to take his chance should it present itself.

    Opinions eh?

Think we need a holding midfielder and another winger misen.

Agree about DM and wide player.

Stones had much more stature than Holgate. Dudgeon isn't ours and struggles with injuries, Smith and Templeton haven't had any game time, Nyatanga is needed at CB due to us being so short there. Hope Cowgill can step in but it remains to be seen still.

@Guiseleyacademy: Another good story regarding our academy. Jacob Brown has been offered a contract with Barnsley FC. Just minor details to be sorted.

    Another lad as well.

I really like Dudgeon, but his knee condition is for life and I think it's always going to limit/disrupt his appearances. I really expected Smith to make that spot his own, but the injury on the eve of the season beginning set him back and he doesn't look to be in Danny's plans right now. He's only 17 though int he? Plenty of time. So maybe you're right and we could do with another body in there? I wouldn't be against it. I just see our winger situation, looking at Dale's own injury issues and therefore feel we're proper ****** if he pulls up again. Nobody else to call on unless we're including Treacy and for me I don't see any signs of him improving.

And we're crying out for that battle hardened, holding laiker. An experienced option.

    Agree.

I think the 'surprise' may come in the form of the fact that we've signed a young, unaccomplished player from non-league, at a pivotal stage of the season, not that he's a right back. I for one think these types of signings are what we as a club have been missing - young, ambitious, driven players with potential, who want to play for our club, not some journeymen after one last pay check.

From what I've seen of Brown, his defensive capabilities are woeful. Bree looked more adept going forward in the games I've seen him, and Holgate looks to have the potential to be another John Stones. He reminds me of a right footed Darren Barnard, given his ability to pass the ball so comfortable around the park, but given his build he looks likely to move into the centre of 'a' back line in time.

Another exciting signing in my opinion, and long may it continue.

PS - This was my 6,900 post. Thank me? :)

Definitely. Seen a few clips now of Worcester games on youtube and he's very adventurous, bombs on a lot and looks as fit as a fiddle. Plenty of assists too. It's another exciting recruit, ala Berry I suppose.

Maybe we just wanted to recycle the Williams shirt now he's back at Fulham. Forward thinking exciting signing just the type I hoped we would be making this season.

Sounds a decent laiker on those opinions.

Good to see some of these younguns that we are signing have proper potential and good CV ratings from real fans of their latter clubs which compliment our own young talent rather than because its Wayne Rooney's brother etc as last manager seemed to do.
