If he's "not a marquee" signing does that mean we aren't showing any in tent?

Bumping this up. Absolutely correct assessment of the Wycombe game but not much else. I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much from us before Christmas and would have been happy to be mid-table in December. Obviously we may well be outside the top six in December, but it's fair to say that we're doing ok so far and clearly improving every game.

The purpose of this post is not to mock @Robert_Goulet , far from it. I'm just wondering if you've reassessed your predictions for the season based on our better than expected form so far?

ha ha, I was waiting for this to get bumped. We’re miles ahead of where I expected us to be. You have to give credit to Duff and the lads, especially the lads as they’ve surprised me. There’s a long way to go yet, but I don’t mind eating some pie.

To be fair your predictions looked spot on, especially three games in. We were extremely broken, and while I had faith in Duff to mend us I really didn't envisage it being this quick. Although if we're being realistic we still have some quite serious weaknesses. Any half decent Championship side would have put 3 or 4 past us in the first half yesterday, and I still think we'll struggle to break down some teams who come to Oakwell for a draw. But the trajectory is clearly moving in the right direction, and I can only see us improving further as the season goes on.

Broken, or needing time to gel? We'd got a new manager, with his own ideas and new players. It wasn't going to happen overnight, and to be honest, I'd say its still happening now.

In football terms - needing to gel. Mentally - they looked totally broken last season.

The thing that has surprised me and helped us enormously is how poor the L1 strikers are in front of goal. Our defence hasn't looked to solid to be honest but only Wycombe have really punished us - both the last 2 games would have been much harder if our opponents could shoot.

The flip side is we have been much better in front of goal than I expected though still room for improvement - eg our lack of finishing cost us against Port Vale but the last couple of games in particular we have been really quite clinical. scored 3 goals 3 times now when I think most of us were expecting 1 or 0 in most games.
