I’m not a fan of them, largely because of one that’s on a flyover of the a2 at shooters hill. It’s huge and incredibly bright. But agree re advertising in general. There’s far more things at side of roads and motorways now, not sure it’s for the better.
Those concept images certainly look impressive! I suspect they’ve taken at least two of the units under the bowling (next to Nando’s) as they’re all under offer in the leasing plan, but not yet heard for sure. The plan is to open by December. Hopefully we’ll end up with a nice mix of independents and national names - I think the council are gearing up for another announcement on tenants very soon.
So where does the 'dutch' roundabout fit into tarn centre? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59017503
I wonder whether that's what they were talking about when they said they were going to make it safer to cross Pontefract road so that fans could get from nudgers bridge to the football ground. Near the underpass maybe?
Also . . "Budget 2021: English city regions to get £6.9bn for public transport" We get a sodding roundabout. We have a crap link to Doncaster, Huddersfield, and Manchester. Links to Leeds, Sheffield and Wakefield have all been reduced. Are they coming back?
Dutch roundabouts are built so that priority is given to pedestrians and cyclists. Not many places make sense, here or town end roundabout maybe. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cambridgeshire-53947440
In hindsight, it was a very short-sighted decision to lift the railway line to Doncaster via Wath. The line was still down in the mid 80’s and by the 90’s SYPTE were on a real mission to reopen railway stations in the region. It would cost hundreds of millions to reinstate that now. I believe the council are looking at a Bus Rapid Transit scheme for links to Doncaster, but it doesn’t sound like a Hickleton bypass will be happening anytime soon, despite the huge Amazon warehouse planned near to the already massive Aldi Distribution Centre at Goldthorpe.
I know it won't, but I think it needs to happen. But then I think the links to Manchester from SY need improving too. [nearly an hour on a fast train from Sheffield is not right]. From Barnsley, 1.5 hours if your connections are good, if you go through Huddersfield or Sheffield. Manchester is only over the other side of a ruddy big hill. It shouldn't be that hard.
Penny Pie Park will be a gyratory, not a roundabout. There aren’t many active travel schemes in Barnsley, and I’ve seen nothing else about this. I can only assume it’s town end, unless they’re planning on closing the underpass at Alhambra roundabout. There aren’t any other roundabouts in the town centre.
