Manchester - Munich, Munich - JFK return comes in at £899 for 2 around mid March next year, seems reasonable enough to me!
Just been on Flightline and it suggested its new site http://www.cheapholidays.com/flights Had a quick go and for Manchester to New York for March next year they are coming up at around £840 for 2 adults with a connection, but even BA is coming up at £1047 for 2 adults direct flights.
Thanks buddy, I'll take a look. I always check Lufthansa first as I use them for all my trips to Germany(4 or 5 times a year).
try looking Manchester-dublin or shannon and then either of those to New York, aer lingus are supposed to be cheap. Also if you use Lufthansa often are you a memeber of there frequent flyer, collecting miles, if so do you have enough to go at least oneway on miles
I stayed here:- http://www.theroosevelthotel.com/ Nice hotel, next to Grand Central Station, not cheap, but then if you want cheap you'll need to get off the Island and stay in Queens or somewhere similar. Do go up the Rockafella, better than Empire State, less queues, plus if you can put a shirt on, get to the Cocktail bar:- http://www.timeout.com/newyork/bars/rainbow-grill View is amazing. There was no queue when we went early Saturday night. If you like Fish go to the bottom of Grand Central Station, amazing fish bar. You can get into MOMA for free if you are prepared to queue after about 5pm, very good. Also visit the Library if you remember Ghost Busters, great building and when I went they had a Jack Kerouac display, another amazing building.
Went in 2011, flew with Continental (now part of United Airlines I think). Flights were about £800 for the both of us. Stayed at the Pennsylvania opposite Madison Sq Garden, basic but did the job. About 5 minutes walk to Times Square and the Empire State. Definite 'to-do's' are Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, Empire State (we then got half price to go up the Chrysler) and Central Park which is indescribablely huuge!!
Tell a lie it wasn't the Chrysler it was the Top of the Rock like Wakey Red said. We invested in the New York Pass which saved a fortune on the tourist sightseeing stuff.
I'm going again in October,I'm staying with family over in Flushing Queens.I've just booked Are Lingua from Manchester via Dublin £500. If you feel adventurous get on the subway get the "E" train out to Queens and get out at Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Avenue, then have a walk down that street full off shops and restaurants another train line runs on stilts above the street, great atmosphere, try visiting Forest Hills district in Queens.See how the other half live that's just a few stops further down the "E" line and Jamaica District is great for shopping too. Take the Statton Island ferry too it's free just get on it get out at the other the other end then come back on the next on.Do it in the evening when it's getting dark it sails right past the Statue Of Liberty and on the way back you get some great views of Manhattan. Have a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge then go down onto Brooklyn promenade under the bridge there's a nice ice cream parlour there and you get some great views. One things for sure you will enjoy the visit.
I went with Dave in 2011, stayed hotel 17 on east 17 street. Out of the way of all the hustle and bustle but close to subway systems. When you get there get the new York pass! Think its $200 and you get to visit every attraction. Saves a lot of money.
Booked this morning to go to NY in early November. Staying for 4 nights at the Distrikt Hotel (rated 4th in New York by Trip Advisor), flying out from Manchester with BA and a direct return flight with American Airlines. Booked with Expedia and got an extra 100 quid knocked off with the code DISCOVERUSA100 and a further 1000 Nectar points on top. Worked out just over 800 quid each which I though was pretty reasonable! Not sure if you are after a package, but thought i'd pass on the little bit of research I have done. Hope you have a good time!
We're going the week before you, then - same hotel! Expedia too!! Looks more than decent. Been a few times before, but it's the kids' first trip, so doing all the obvious touristy stuff.
