I don't understand what you want the club to do? If the club doesn't have the money then we can't increase the budget. Attendances were down last season so if the clubs going to be sustainable, the budget can't increase until more fans turn up. And so what if Cryne wants a bit of return on his investment? He's a fan who's pumped more money into the team than any other. Why should he continue to do so when some fans who can easily afford it, won't even stump up enough money for a season ticket, simply because he's not investing a further million or so in the team? If some fans don't believe the stuff on display recently is deserving of their backing then that's their prerogative, but they can't bemoan the club for showing no ambition while we've got fans like that.
'Chicken and the egg' isn't it..? Cryne simply doesn't have the sort of spare money required to make an impression in the Championship - which is one of the reasons why he's looking to sell.
Funny how its got to stay away fans not buying season tickets or why should PC stump up being the reasoning behind not upping the budget. Are these the only 2 ways to give Flicker more finances. Same owd blame game. Good question by the way CT, most of us like to know and if the club had released a statement stating a slight increase in budget at least it would look as though we were going in the right direction.
When we are entering negotiations to sigh players, why would anyone expect the club to say they are better off than last year? Surely this would just increase the price.
That's a bit of an extreme example, and is that the only solution? People are asking where the Stones, Davies and cup run money has gone, not £40 million.
That's not the point Conan is making though mate. The point that he is making along with myself and several others for some time now, is that the club must start producing improved commercial results in order for the club to move forward both on and off the field - the same theme that Flicker is now suggesting. Is Flicker wrong too?
Not according to this: http://www.worldfootball.net/zuschauer/eng-championship-2011-2012/1/ Last season's average attendance was 10,332 and this season was 10,207.
Stop talking sense Conan! You are 100% spot on with this succinct and shrewd post. That simple concept seems to be beyond many other fans and the 'board'.
Its taking the manager of the football team to tell the marketing and commercial team that things need to improve and we need to start acting like a Championship team.
I think my figures are correct. This is from the football league website: http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/DivisionalAttendance/0,,10794~20127,00.html
Whichever ones correct do you think those tiny figures of 100 are going to drastically cut the budget? A drop of around 1%? To have the same budget when were talking of ambition from Flicker, flogging our top scorer and best prospect in years is ballax.
Whilst I don't disagree with the principle any improved commercial activity is going to be small in comparison to tv and ticket income and is only going to benefit us through the season. It isnt going to allow a bigger budget now as there isn't any certainty as to how much it will generate. I imagine we will see the player sales money invested in signing O'Grady and in Flicker's investment in 'making the players feel like championship players'. This will cost throughout the season (hotels, training facilities, bonding trips) but he clearly feels will make us more successful. And given the end of the season I'm not going to argue with him. I want the club to improve revenue streams and matchday income to increase our budget. But everyone needs to forget this idea that individuals should start bankrolling bigger budgets on the gamble of success.
But do we know as conan as stated with reasonable doubt that the budget as been cut? And that's a genuine question mike? As it been published somewhere that flickers budget for players is going to be cut?
