Nice to see the Union Jack flying above the Town Hall.

All government buildings are to have the flag outside them from now on. I think I read that somewhere last week.

    Embarrassing right wing move.

I don't feel the need to parade my nationality on a no mark Tuesday.

The last time I waved that thing was for the 2012 Olympics.

Really? That’s pathetic. We’ll be singing the National Anthem in school, hand on heart, in no time.

Because it's a populist move designed to further the culture wars and take attention off the real issues we're facing as a country.

New government directive, started on January 1st. Admittedly in other European countries, town halls have the national flag outside, I would suggest this government's motives are different from say, France?

Boris Johnson has an affair and wastes 125k of tax payers money on related matters.

Quick get the Union Jack up. Got to distract them somehow. Ooh look a dinghy.

Fly the flag, great. If not, no big deal. But a government directive to do so? Bit weird imo.

Not a big fan of all this new found flag sh@gging - "patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel" - Samuel Johnson.
Parading flags around just as we descend into great authoritarianism, ban protests - they are trying to appeal to nationalists to cover up the cluster fk they have made of COVID, BREXIT, EYE BROWS, BULLYING IN GOVERNMENT, seedy deals with NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOURS for ppe, All part of brand Boris and his appeal to the thicko racists, not for me I'm afraid.

France had a plain white flag until 1789.

The flag you see today is the symbol of the revolution army who carried it on their shoulders as they stormed the Bastille palace.

When the French display their flags it's largely to honour those brave souls.

    Very different motives.

Does it actually hurt anything? Once it's been up for a week it will just feel normal and never be mentioned again.

Think Peter Gabriel had it about right.

Not particularly bothered about flags on Government buildings, either way.

Government ministers having an 8ft flag in their living rooms for interviews is just weird though.

Yeah, because banning protests and putting some fabric on a pole is exactly the same thing and has exactly the same effect.

Christ on a bike! I'm as left-leaning as anyone, but It's a flag. What is the issue? What is it going to change about your day-to-day lives or your rights(unless you live in a government building)?
