Yer ruddy turncoat. I've been telling you for years that you could make a killing in RHB knocking pictures out to the tourists. The guy that used to do all the paintings must be knocking on, if he's still around. I haven't seen him the last few times I've been up there.

You're right about the place though, as nearly all the houses in the village have been bought by people to make a fortune letting out to holidaymakers. I had a look on a website last year when we were going up there for a few weeks and bored Jules by telling her who used to live in each house in the 70s and 80s. There were at least 6 places that members of my family used to live in. Going back to those times it used to be difficult to buy a place in RHB if you didn't know the right people. I can recall the village council blocking Pat Phoenix from buying a place when she wanted a holiday home there. I don't think they could divorce Elsie Tanner from the actress and that Elsie had a bit of a reputation!

Look a bit further out though. Try Hawkser or Fylingdales. Both within walking distance of the village.

I take it you've given up on Wentworth then?

Failing that, this side of town is nice and there are some nice places going up towards Huddersfield from here...

Wentworth is the centre of the universe for me, but I want to explore God's country a bit and maybe have a year here and there while keeping ties in London where I will be getting most of my work from. There isn't much work for an artist up there to be honest, the one's that are there have got it all sewn up and will probably be able to survive on less than me. The pictures I do of the rich folk's big houses is as commercial as I want to get, there might be a bit of business for that in Yorkshire but I could get by on what I get in Highgate and Hampstead.

I'm bang against holiday homes and wouldn't want to go anywhere if I was pricing out a young local. Though I would be very happy to re-didtribute London money in the North!! :D

I like Wentworth a lot, it's a lovely interesting place that I've known well since I was a lad. I've been dawdling over putting my name down for a cottage there, waiting list is usually about three years. I scored some brownie points when I did some unpaid conservation work on the interior of the old church a couple of years ago, including the Strafford monuments. That's the kind of skills they are keen to attract and would serve me well in any historic village.

As I was saying to Gordon, I think I'd rather go North and get to know that end of the county better. I'd like to retire in Wentworth, unless I get a better offer. :)

You could do a lot worse than spending time between York and Wentworth!

If it was good enough for William Hague!! His Mam is one of my rival Wentworth postcard collectors. She outbids me for stuff on ebay! Least I think it's her, she bought one from me too a few years back.

I shall be googling the earth on those mate thanks, one or two I know well. Found a couple of pics from Sands End when me and the Jack Russell walked there along the beach in a 50 mph head wind and rain. It perked up by the time we arrived as you can see. It was worth it, didn't find any fossils though.

I'm being bullied by Hemsworth Tyke, look. :)
