RE: The penalty was NOT the keepers fault According to Andy Ritchie it WAS a penalty. I hope people realise I'm not having a go at Colgan, simply discussing his performance in a fair way.
RE: The penalty was NOT the keepers fault But you aren't though otherwise you would also credit him for the penalty save and a coupl of other outstanding saves
RE: Spot on Not at all... he was the most controversial selection in the team so I was analysing his performance. Which part of my summing up of his performance don't you agree with?
RE: Spot on The fact that you say one good save does not make up for an error. I believe you would have said it differant had it been Flinders. I don't think it was a controversial selection - I'd have started with Colgan as well.
Apologies read your other postings and indeed you did. anyway - I think he did well and a clean sheet is evidence of that
Not contoversial? 93% of people on here would have selected Flinders, I think that makes it controversial. A keeper on average might make between 4-8 decent saves in a game... are you telling me it's okay if they make 4-8 errors that could easily cost a goal?
I will openly admit that before the game, I would have preferred to have seen Scott Flinders in goal. However, even given a couple of mistakes, I think that Nick Colgan did enough today to justify his selection for the team. I think that to pick a Man Of The Match today would be a virtually impossible decision as the entire team display was good. OK, individuals made errors, and this is true of the entire team, be it spilled crosses, failed clearances, bad passes or shooting when a player was in a better position, but as a team, this was the best I've seen in many a long week. I'm not saying we are promotion material, in fact, before the game, I said to my friend that the best I expected from this season was a mid table finish & an exit at the first round of every cup. I am saying that this performance today, against a Swindon side who I thought would have given us a good game, bodes well for the future. If, after a dozen games, we are in the top 6, I will allow myself to get excited, but not before.
Swindon's mistake... they got one cross into the box and they got a penalty and a man sent off. They never put another cross in. Bizarre tictacs.
Grrrrrrrrrrr..clean sheet? Why? Amazing Kay clearance? Amazing Robbie "save"? Poor Swindon finishing? I'll grant you Colgan saved a pen...and he also saved a 1 on 1...and was quick out to gather a couple. But let's not pretend a clean sheet was down to his "ability". Nice of you to say you'd have also started with Colgan. Is this wise after the event? (as in clean sheet) I don't remember you telling us yesterday (Friday) "why I love Nick and he must start". I'll settle for 2-0 every game. I don't care how.
here we go... have I not just read a comment of yours about ppl twisting the evidence to suit their beliefs? Kay was outstanding 1st half.
RE: Grrrrrrrrrrr..clean sheet? Why? I know we disagree a lot, but I love your honesty and the way you cut to the chase and don't mince your words... brilliant.
RE: Grrrrrrrrrrr..clean sheet? Why? If you can check the polling votes for who should start then mine was for Colgan
RE: here we go... He made a massive error 4 mins into the game, Colgan made a couple of errors as well - both also made excellent tackles/saves, the differance is people are on Colgans back but not on Kays and thats what annoys me.
RE: Protecting Flinders It was mentioned on the radio yesterday that a possible reason for playing Colgan and not Flinders was that Scott hasn't really had a break between last season and this. He went off with the England Squad, came back had a weeks holiday and then was straight back into pre-season training. As you have said he is young and Andy Ritchie may have felt it better to give him a rest.
Pretty much sums up what we were saying. He does some good things, but usually because of having to recover his own mistakes.
