The problem is that £3m players come with £3m wages, and it's that bit that we can't afford.

Serie A wages must be pretty decent. Plus he gets to spend the weekends at Lake Garda. Skiing in the Dolomites. Not to mention the ladies. I'd go.

Don't think he's doing too badly on the ladies front what with his unbelievably attractive girlfriend, wages are probably comparable with the Championship outside the top 5/6 teams, though admittedly the chance to say you'd played in Serie A and the weather would be pretty compelling factors...

Skiing in the Dolomites Weekend at Lake Garda I never knew The Italian leagues only played their games in midweek. I’m not too sure many Footballers ski even if they aren’t playing that day

A plane journey from friends, family, a league that is totally different to all your experience, huge career risk, no one speaks your language, miles from the nearest city.
You’re describing a 50 year olds retirement goals not a lad from Scotland in his early 20s

Apparently Italy invented fish n' chips during Roman times n' the Scottish love fish n' chips. Maybe Lindsay loves his fish n' chips and it would be like a home coming going to Brescia.

I've stayed in Brescia, it's really nice. City of well over half a million so a good place to be. I double checked their crowds and they do average 7.5k. Incredibly low for a place that size but then the attendances across Serie B are terrible, nearly all under 10k. Strange.

Strikes me a move to Italy could soon end in tears. I'm sure Liam will have closer suitors that make more sense. I can see one of our centre backs going, but not both, especially with Adam on his way. So perhaps he'll be allowed to run down his contract at Oakwell.

Nah, the fish n' chips will sway it.

And the chance to play against Juventus, AC Milan, Inter, etc.,
Now give over, that is ********. Loads of people travel in their youth.
I actually went to live in Italy in my early 20s, learnt the language, married an Italian woman. So not the preserve of 50 year olds.

He'd also be playing against Juventus, Inter, AC Milan, Napoli, etc, pitting his wits against Ronaldo.
Or he could play it safe, stay forever in Barnsley and play Millwall. Depends on what you want out of life really.

It's a no brainer for him if they come knocking IMO. And agree regarding leaving home. I worked in a remotish part of central China for a year as a 21 year old, one of the best things I've done so far (as a 38 year old).

I agree with the majority of this. £2m is the problem with BFC historically though. We always undervalue players. It's good that we run on our budgets and are self-sustaining, but need to start charging other clubs their daft-money prices for our players, so we can pay them for quality replacements (within the spreadsheet model).

£2m for a championship centre-back, albeit one with a just-promoted side, is nothing these days. It's 3 months of wages to a prem player. It's a year's wages to a top-end champ player!

It needs to be £5m for Lindsay, otherwise we're not getting value. But then, with only a year left, it starts to smell a bit like 2017. Is there a flaw in the spreadsheet system? 2 years of quality and we're forced into being lowballed, unless we give everyone we sign a four-year contract and they turn out to be Lloyd Isgrove?

Bare in mind the figure turned down for Moore in January from a Championship club, £2 million won’t even touch the sides of what is being asked by the club.

Lindsay is a funny one. From what I’ve seen he’s far superior to Clarke at Portsmouth yet the latter is being touted for £10 million plus and LL is being mentioned in the £1.5 bracket. Seems a little way off either true valuation to me.

Show him the Metrodome & it will be a done deal. Who could compete with that.

I can’t imagine he’d want to risk uprooting and missing the exposure that is the championship for what won’t be a particularly huge raise, especially if he can get a move to a larger championship club that will pay him equal or more.

I know going to the continent is very a la mode but lots of players take their chances only to end back at the level they left in the UK

Brescia owned by Cellino - wonder how much stability Liam could look forward to?
Personally, wouldn't touch this move when there are likely to be other offers and a chance to play week in, week out in front of far, far bigger crowds.

Average attendance at AC/Inter is well over 54K, Juventus, Roma, Lazio and Fiorentina is over 30K. Only Villa and Leeds can beat 30K in the Championship and one of them could still be promoted. Fair enough the home capacity is only 16K, but if it is full every week that will probably be more than we get.
