I wonder if Duff has finally bought a house up north then? Wasn’t that part of Huddersfield stipulation when they looked at him previously? Wouldn’t surprise me if he did go there. If we wanted him we should’ve moved quicker. Oh well, I guess we’ll see what happens.
Yeah either works for me. I just cant see us being able to afford Hecky given his last job was taking a team into prem from Championship.
My mate is a Hudds fan and he says he knows one of their players and he has told him that Duff has signed.
Exactly my point. We have brought in some good players through the recruitment system, trouble is we are unable to keep hold of them long enough to make a real difference for this club. It's almost as though the strategy has a ceiling point of financial survival / stability, when in fact it should act more as a continual improvement of what we have on the pitch. We probably have to dig our heels in more when the transfer windows come round, even if it means potentially losing out on a big transfer fee sometimes, to keep the momentum of improvement moving along. When a player signs, it should be made clear to them that unless the money being offered is completely ridiculous then, expect smaller bids to be rejected if it's for the good of the overall team. If they are good enough, they will either contribute to us having success on the field or being picked up at our expense say the following season. Especially of the last 15 years, we seem to be able to build a successful team but don't have the determination to roll the dice and give it that extra season or until the end of the current season. Massive example was the season when Winnall left. We were on the up playing some great football with a solid team but we folded in the transfer window. It's having that confidence in the team they have put together doing the job, rather than starting to rebuild each season. Yes, it adds extra risk financially but without that willingness to take a risk, we will slowly become a mid table at best league 1 side, accepting that treading water is the best we can hope for.
Huddersfield pay more money and have a bigger budget as they've just come down from the championship. If it's a choice of us or Huddersfield I know which looks the more attractive.
Hurry in what sense? To throw a load of nails on the road between Barnsley and Huddersfield to puncture his tyres before he gets there? Surely if we're genuinely interested in Duff we'll have made him an offer (as Huddersfield will also have done) and now he's making his decision.
No. Because everyone wants to come here but they don't because the board lacks ambition/won't spend money/prefers foreigners (delete as applicable)
I would assume the fact that he hasn't been announced as head coach. We have a vacancy. He is a free agent. If he wanted the job and we wanted him chances are it would have been signed, sealed and announced by now.
Exactly. The delay made it obvious there was a doubt he was taking it. Very disappointed….he’s the appointment that would have sold season tickets. Williamson won’t.
