I will certainly be trying these out at the weekend now. As I live just outside Lincoln I never get to hear about the new pubs opening in town.

Ryan Hedges is 1.85m, same as Adam Davies, I think that’s plenty big enough for a number 7.

Father in law is shocking for his snobbery with this. I order Lager he tuts don't know how you can drink that. Then if we have been anywhere without Real ale you get "only John Smith's can't drink that" never get much of a reply when I point out that he used to drink it all the time.
People enjoy real ale that's fine we can't all like the same things. It's the snobbery that goes with it I can't do with.

I grant you most of the ordinary lagers don’t taste of much, but there are plenty out there that have ‘character’ Stella Artois and the German Pilsners for eg.

Like I said it'd be boring if we all liked the same stuff and variety would go out the window.

I like lagers as well as a variety of beers such as the ones at Magic Rock in Hudds and Northern Monk in Leeds. I love a decent pint of Black Sheep or Landlord. I also used to brew all-grain and experiment with different hops and flavours. I find certain mainstream beers horrible but it's just choice. I wouldn't look down on someone ordering Carling or John Smith's at a bar.

I had Stella Artois while in Leuven in Belgium a few years ago where the original brewery was (sad to see it actually getting knocked down). Completely different to what we drink here and really pleasant and i've not touched it here since. And agree with some of the pilsners, Kolsch in Cologne is really quite nice and often brewed in small brew houses. Though in terms of german things, really got a taste for Wheat beers in the last year. Had some in Salzburg last December and really enjoy them now, didn't have the taste for them before having had a free glass of Blue Moon in one of my locals. Hated it and didn't try Wits or Wheats as a result. Then Salzburg and the Stiegl brewery totally changed my opinion.

Thing I really like about the beer scene now is how there is more of a seasonal feel to it, and you can drink suiting on temperature and season. A cold light beer in summer is really enjoyable, and plenty of blondes and golden ales out there. Think it was Wimbledon brewery, SW19, I had it in the summer and it had a really fresh lemon verbena taste, really nice.

The problem with real ale drinkers in Barnsley is that for years they’ve got on trains to Sheffield Wakefield and Leeds , Old habits take a long time to change

I've tried the unfiltered one a few years ago and wasn't too fussed. I'm actually at the Fourpure brewery on Friday. They are having a tasting event in conjunction with Thornbridge and I think they are launching a new collaboration. Not sure what it is, but will be giving it a try.

The brewery is just round the corner from Millwalls ground on an industrial estate... quite a nice little mezzanine tap room, shame about the near neighbours!

Don't know if it was still on, or if you tried it... last time I was there they were launching an IPA in conjunction with Londonist, the missus got some free cans from it. Not my thing, much preferred the orange and seaweed sour.. then even better, a chocolate and vanilla stout.

Morretti Rosso whenever I'm in Italy. Only drink wine at home, miles better than any ale.

Tell your mate he is an absolute star. My beverage of choice is effectively any of the Munich beers so a pub in tarn selling Paulaner gets my vote any day of the week. Will call in for a couple Saturday no doubt.
