As somebody who's currently trying to move to larger premises (although not in Barnsley), it's a hell of a lot harder than it sounds! I'm sure they'd appreciate the offer of a borrow though.

    Not strictly true.

But then it depends what you are after.

Corner pin will be solid from about 1pm til 7 for kareoke.

Chennels always has a good few in.

    As does brammahs,courthouse and silkstone.

    Garrisons busy most nights.

Soul lounge on a sunday afternoon generates a good crowd with the live music.

OO bar always has people in on an evening. Good deals on beer and pizza.

White bear does a lot of lunch time trade.

Tipsy cow never seems to be quiet.

Yes it does, shame about the strength as I‘m a bit of a lightweight at drinking nowadays so don’t drink a lot of it.

Wife beater. Proper stuff is good. I'm a bitter man, as many of you will know. Or a wino. Gin is OK. Cider is a bit crap, unless it's the proper crap. Whiskey is something to be avoided. (I've had a few lost hours / days in the highlands).

Tea is safe. Water is better.

A nice pint of ale is just what you want. You can't always get what you want.

They have & it’s not really happened.

There’s the new one near Brammahs & some up near the arcade & I’d be surprised if they’re doing very well.

I was thinking more on a night but if that’s the case I’m glad.

When I was a student town was heaving in a Wednesday & we’d go out on a Friday & it was nearly as busy as Saturday nights.

I never really did Sunday nights but I used to pick my brother up sometimes & there was always plenty out but now I don’t seem to see any of that.

I went out on a Friday night in the middle of the summer & it was like a ghost town. I’m told there’s not much of a student night these days.

You couldn't be more wrong. Where as most pubs in Barnsley these days are only open at weekends, the ones that serve real ale - Weatherspoons, No 7 are open all the time. Then there's aracade ale house and tipsy cow and new kid on the block temple of muses. Town centre has a bit of catching up to do with Mapplewell and Barugh that have some well established pubs serving real ale and food that are always packed, but it's getting there.

Plod killed Wednesday nights off about five or six years ago.

Fridays tend to be more nippers out who all turn up pre loaded on last bus straight to che bar or whatever the place is called this weekend.

Saturdays it gets busy with both. Avoid wellington st though unless you want a fight. And that’s just the women.

Arcade Ale house, temple of muses, OO bar, Evoo, white bear, odwyers, Brammahs, soul lounge, jocks cavern, garrison.

Last two tend to have live bands on. Garrison has tribute acts on Clone Roses etc. Jocks cavern has an in-house band.

All serve decent ale and continental stuff as well as your traditional John smiths and fizzy piss.

Problem barnsley has is the Mutton trains to Leeds.

In my opinion it does have character and is far superior to most of the ‘regular’ lagers on offer in the UK. I’ve tasted the real ‘McCoy’ plenty of times and yes it really is a quality drink, however, that does not make the UK based Stella ****.

I might give it a try when I go to Brussels in July but I remain sceptical.

If you're going to Brussels... and you like trying different beers.... give the Stella a miss. It's different to the UK, that it's less watery, has some taste and as with just about any Belgian beer, the froth is retained and clings to the glass. If you need a heads up on where to go or try, feel free to ask or just PM me.

Plod killed Wednesday nights? What or who are plod? And how did they do it?

Wednesday used to be a great student night, a good live scene and nightclubs playing alternative music. Is it that students nowadays are not that alternative?

Nowt wrong wi mutton train... a good sing along and some sights I’ll never unsee on there... lol

I'll give it a miss then. If you can recommend anything like Leffe Brun? I can drink the blonde (and the usual Belgian stuff) but that type is my preference.

Best Belgian beer I ever had was Palm Noel but you don't seem to see Palm much in the UK.
