I can guarantee you, this post wouldn't have been made if we had 3 points in the bag tonight. Grow up, we can't win them all.

What a load of nonsense! I'm often amazed by the extraordinary lack of ambition by so many on this board. They seem to relish the small town club and all the 'doffing your cap' mentality that comes with it.

Don't confuse the issue by talking about how great things have been over the last 12 months. That's a given. I've been watching them for over 40 years and this team have given me more pleasure than all the previous ones - yes all of them. But that's not the point. The point is that in our less than glorious history the opportunty for FOOTBALL greatness (as opposed to a healthy bank balance) comes along very infrequently. We've spent 6 months getting into a position where we are 1 point off the play-offs with 3 months to go. So what do we do? We have a 'fire sale' and bring in a few loans. Brilliant!

I felt for those players tonight. Not because they "lacked organisation" as one poster has commented, but because they know the heart has been ripped out of the side and there is a gaping quality gap.

    Job done!

All the good work over the last 12 months as been absolutely destroyed by a lack of ambition, we had a opportunity this month to strengthen and go again while we were winning games and riding forward momentum that we'd built up, instead of bringing young players into a winning side this month we're going to be bring them into the team while our better players are jumping ship we've been getting beat for three months.

Correct. The fact that Paul Heckingbottom has worked miracles on a shoestring the past 12 months is a completely different issue to the fire sale and lack of quality permanent signings in that equates to our board running up the white flag and effectively saying we've reached the limit of our ambitions.

The game tonight and the lack of signings after selling our key players are completely different issues.

Not a bit of it. We sold 3 players who wanted to leave. What are we meant to do, play them at gunpoint?

We're one permanent player down. How many did you want? Which players should we have gone for which would have represented 'ambition'? Which we can afford?

We'll see in May if there is a 'gaping quality gap.' I don't think there is. We lost 2 excellent players in Hourihane and Winnall which anyone would find hard to replace, but I reckon those that are left will dish out a few more bloody noses before the season is out.

You're right - is it up to him. If he wants to moan about the shambles of a transfer window then it's **** all to do with you.

    Quite.

Look mate, it's not like I walk round all day singing "what a wonderful world." I just don't see any point whatsoever in viewing everything that might happen in a negative light, which seems to be the way you and the OP view the world. We're all different.

If we get to the end of the season, have lost the vast majority of the remaining games, and either get relegated or stay up by the skin of our teeth, then I think you can justifiably describe the transfer window as a "shambles."

If we finish mid-table, then plenty may wonder what might have been, had we kept Hourihane and Winnall and/or invested heavily in the squad.

I guess it all depends on your expectations, as to how you view the end result.

If we look back to September, I'd expect to find plenty of threads about how poor the summer transfer had been, about how inadequate a centre half from Torquay, a midfielder on loan from Wigan, and a young winger from Liverpool would be in our fight against the drop. Clearly that assessment was misplaced.

All I'm saying is you can't judge the impact of this transfer window until you've seen the outcome.

To reiterate - I'm gutted about the players we've lost, and it's a big ask for anyone to replace them. I just don't see where the players are that are a) available, b) better than what we've got already and c) in our budget. I'm sure we've tried, and will try again in the summer, when the market is more favourable, and we've sorted the off field issues.

We didn't need to invest heavily, doing what we did in the summer would have been enough.
