    One point people are missing...

Is that if we charge a reduced price for home fans, we have to charge the same for Wednesday fans.

I suspect the club expect them to bring 4-6,000 regardless of it being on TV. If you assumed they were all adults, charging say £15 instead of £28 leads to a loss of £50,000-£75,000. There might be a few less Wednesday fans if it's £28 than £15, but I suspect they'll still bring a good number and we'll make more money charging £28 than £15.

There will be very few pay on the day Barnsley fans. There will be less than 8000 Barnsley fans there if its 28 quid in. Why pay that when it's 1.50 a pint in chennels.

Swfc will fetch over seven thousand regardless.

The games at OAKWELL for ****s sake. We shouldn't be out numbered by the away fans.

Middlesboro reduced their prices, I think £10, when they played Sheff Wed last week on Sky. Biggest gate for years 28,000

Could the club not charge less as they will be receiving Sky money for the game?

The money from Sky is a pittance. The club need to maximise revenue, and whilst I'd like to be charged less, and see more fans in the ground, I understand that they need as much money as possible. I'm fairly certain that they'll make more money by charging £28 than anything lower.

If we get Man United in FAC3 you can guarantee these fans we're appealing to will suddenly have a spare £35 if necessary.

It is not only money, it is getting some of the missing fans back and creating atmosphere.

I agree in theory, but do you think those extra fans who come for the Wednesday game will come to Birmingham and Millwall at home? I doubt it, whatever the game is like.

There were more Blackpool fans than the average away following. There might have been roughly 4500-5000 pay on the gate fans rather than the usual 2000, which might just give a slightly higher overall income, plus a little bit extra with food/drink sales. However, I'd put some of that down to the anniversary celebrations and all the extra advertising and entertainment. The fact that (home) crowds for Category C games last season were barely different to those for more expensive games backs this up.

I'm all for getting more people in the ground, but a lot of folk on here think it's an easy answer and don't think of the bigger picture. For example, if the club reduced many games to £15 or less, they'd lose season tickets holders or have to reduce prices. Reducing ticket prices for one game will almost certainly not result in a higher than usual attendance in the next £28 game, even if we win and play well.

    It's on sky.

Do you honestly think people are going to pay just shy of 30 quid given the shower of ***** they have had to endure since Christmas both on the field and from the club?

Chennels and walkabout are rubbing their hands with glee.

There were 4,000 extra Barnsley fans Journo. Blackpool brought just over 2,000, the attendance was 14,134, which leaves 12,000 Barnsley fans. Every other game this year there have been about 8,000 Barnsley fans. So for the Blackpool game there were 4,000 extra.

I'm not saying what we should do for the Wednesday match or how many will come if we do this, that or the other, I'm just saying that when we reduced the ticket price for the Blackpool game we got 4,000 more fans in.

Alan, you make some good points and I actually agree with you. Me & my mam travel from Hull for every home game and are really upset with the public of Barnsley not supporting the club anywhere near enough!

But the fact is, the fans aren't coming, and the club aren't doing anything about it, the numbers are going down and down and so is the match day experience/atmosphere!!!!

I've suggested great ways to get around not having to charge Wednesday less, lets see what happens at our meeting with Don shortly, see what is said.

I'll guess here and now that there will be some fantastic reasons why those suggestions CAN'T be done...

CAT C games v Palace, Peterbro, Watford etc are unattractive no matter what we charge. Personally l'd rather pay £20/£25/£28 to watch us v Leeds/Weds than £15 v Palace/Peterbro at a game that has the atmosphere of a funeral.

Exactly, so it's down to opposition more than price that affects things. Obviously I realise the price doesn't help but it isn't the major factor.
