Suppose this thread comes down to: We can have “We must always believe the accuser.” Or we can have “Innocent until proven guilty.” We can’t have both.
But is that only because in the polarised 21st century, ‘the accused’ is too difficult a concept? ‘Innocent until proved guilty’ was always a tricky statement for the general public who can’t see the difference between ‘someone did something’ and the weight of evidence required to prove something beyond reasonable doubt. You need a very open mind to step through the process, and as is evident by the way this government is wrecking our legal system without a murmur from the public, the vast majority of people do not possess one.
