La Chouffe is without a doubt the best Belgian Beer on the market. In this country its expensive as **** but in and around the Benelux areas its about 5 quid a pint but at 9% on draft you don't need much.

It tastes smooth and has a nice hoppy flavour. 3 Pints are you are ******, 6 pints you are dancing in the street like a lunatic.

One of the many reason I go to Amsterdam so much.

Another vote for La Chouffe - although I really like Kastel Tripple - 10.5% but strangely nice. The St Bernadus Tripel is also one to look out for - slightly less strong (about 9%) but still very nice!

    Love Belgian beer!

Pretty sure I'll be able to find it here, though it definitely won't be cheap. Still not sure about 9% though. Anything over 7% gets a bit much for me. Will buy a bottle if I see it and report back. Always liked the name as well..... :)

Thats the thing about it mate, its strong but doesn't taste too strong. The taste is really smooth and enjoyable rather than be too overpowering on the alcohol front. Ive got my mates on it and they were surprised at the taste. Leffe, is a more intense taste and not as alcoholic. the bottle isn't quite as nice as draft but its still my favourite brew on the planet.

I went to the National Winter Beer fest at the Derby Roundhouse a couple of years back and got seriously stuck into bottled Belgian Beers and they were fantastic. They mostly tend to be Lager Beers (not necessarily pale and fizzy though).

I remember (vaguely) a night in France drinking draught Grimbergen Abbey (a dark malty beer), which was fantastic - well at least compared to the awful French "beer" on offer in the same bar.

To see what it's really like, I would suggest a trip to Bruges on a mini-cruise from Hull and stay for a night - you'll need somewhere to pass out.

Just been out on an unsuccessful chuff hunt. Sorry, Chouffe hunt. Not for the first time in my life.

Ha, I bet. Next time you are over for a game I'll buy you one in the Old No 7 where they have started to stock it, unbelievably.

Sounds good. Though at 9% I may not remember much for the first half.

    La Choffe
    Triple Karmalat
Corsondonk (reminds me, I've still got a couple of bottles in the outhouse)

Been to Brugge a couple of times and loved the beers - not had any of those you mentioned though Merde.

Don't worry, you're not missing much. Though maybe a connoisseur of Belgian beer would disagree. I know plenty of people who find the hop dominated IPA's which I like completely undrinkable.
