It is the right response but I don't necessarily equate the lack of that with him being a risk. The punishment will be enough of a deterrent in this instance, and knowing if it does happen again he'll be punished even more severely as a serial sex offender. Him making a full unreserved apology and accepting his crime wouldn't make a bit of difference to how much of a risk he is IMO, it's just words after all. Right thing to do but I don't give it much sway either way in this context.
Its possibly all ******** but my mate a Probation officer or whatever they are called this weeks always says that prison teachers nowt other than how to commit different types of crimes and its only if offenders really accept responsibility and know that what they are doing is wrong that they can move forward
My two penneth on the Ched thing. I've a mate (who's done 3 short sentences int nick for been a daft lad - violence) I employ him to labour for me on building/gardening jobs. The only part of the job description is that he turns up, grafts, doesn't get in bother and goes home. He manages it everytime. He's served his time is turning his life around and good luck to the lad. Most of my customers know his history (friends, family, associates, his contacts etc) none have a problem with it. Now if he was a convicted rapist I think that this acceptance wouldn't be as widespread if at all?!? I'm not sure I'd even want to put myself in a position to work with him, have him at my friends/families houses! I'm no expert but he's probably a lot more likely to 'reoffend' and chin someone as Ched is to rape another woman. But that still wouldn't alter my thought process. On a wider thought scale. It's IMHO not wether Ched should be allowed to work again. It's that clubs should consider their selection of employees more than the local builder/gardener as the modern footballer kicks a ball for 90 mins a week. Is a club representative 24/7 as a (wether they like it or not) role model, representative etc. it comes with the territory and the massive weekly pay cheque. It's the clubs who pay the money and make the decisions. I just hope to god that they realise what they're letting themselves for if they do make 'that' decision.
All it would take is a couple of the larger sponsors to start making noises and the whole idea would be dropped. Personally, it's almost certain that he'll end up back in the game somewhere, so I'd quite like it to be Sheffield United to be honest. Yes, he'll possibly score a few, but I'll relish the rest of the country, including the entire female population, learning to hate them as much as I do!
But I wouldn't mind this either...... God knows?!? Any other club it would be clear cut. Those lot are a different breed altogether!
I'm sure there would be a "heightened" atmosphere, I just wouldn't want any portion of my ticket price (however small) to go to that lovely person*.
It's a difficult one between loyalty and beliefs/morals Attend = get behind our lads, willing us to win and have your say Or Don't go = not giving your £ to SUFC(and him) but not giving our lads what they deserve ?!?!? It's a difficult one that NOBODY should have to make
