North for me - I have lived in Scotland, Wales and down south.

I like Southwold, and indeed once caught crabs in Walberswick. Been to a couple of events at Snape too.

Correction, I mean London, not the rest of the south. As long it's more than about 60 miles from London it's probably OK.

Oh, and London (like most cities) smells of exhaust fumes.

    Fulham a dump?

When was the last time you walked from Fulham to Parsons Green, Earls Court or Putney?

And what are these tribes running riot? Assume you mean the Made in Chelsea brigade? Bunch of idiots yes, but hardly risking your life!

All this rubbish about London being a dump is just short sighted. All comments on arrogance and friendliness are valid though

    Don't agree.

Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield.......all have blue-chip companies based there.

Also, in this modern IT world, working from home is favourable.......and living in the North, the actual cost of living is lower.

I like visiting many places in the South (and around the world) but always like to get back "home".

Generalisation of the year so far, will take some beating.

If you'd asked me in my teens, I expected to stay in the north most of my life, purely based on a few trips with parents to London and too much football travel and the narrow minded views of family and friends! I knew no different and had too few first hand experiences to form a real basis of opinion.

I've lived in London now for a 2nd spell for 7 years. I love it. Not just that there is something to cater for every person and their likes and passions, but in little time you can be in a stunning village in Sussex, Kent, Surrey or by the sea in an hour by train.

As for friendliness... my two neighbours are amazingly friendly and always say hello and have a good natter. Many a time I've spoken to people on trains and in general too.

Of course there are negatives, but that's the same everywhere. Nowhere is perfect.

But there are places everywhere to be enjoyed, north, south, east and west and it's narrow minded to tar everywhere with a brush and write it off as bad.

There are plenty of ridiculous generalisations on this thread, but the relative distribution of high-paying jobs is a cold hard fact.

You said "no decent jobs". That's plainly completely incorrect. But no point in arguing about it I suppose.
