The atmosphere against Northampton will be tense and nervous if there’s still something on the game (which is highly likely) - it won’t be banging at all I don’t think. The lunchtime ko wont necessarily help with that either - plus if we go behind and it starts to go wrong, it could get pretty toxic pretty quickly. If we do get a playoff position I’d expect the home tie to have a much better atmosphere - probably not quite as Walsall was, given the trickle over the line to get there as opposed to the huge momentum we carried that year; though better than we’ve seen in recent weeks/months - but we need to get there first and that is certainly no foregone conclusion.
I genuinely don't know what to predict. Will it be electric, will it be incredibly tense and quiet, will it be toxic? I have no idea. I think it will ebb and flow. Looking at the last 11 games though, and the teams we've played, to only pick up 12 points is incredibly poor.
If we fail to secure a result against Blackpool that confirms our play-off berth then I suspect the atmosphere will be like the Bradford City game when a win would confirm our promotion to the Prem. Just as you say, tense and nervous.
I don’t think so. We put ourselves in a position to be promoted automatically this is to secure a spot in the play offs. Think it will be nervy on the players backs as it should have been tied up weeks ago but our forms fallen off a cliff edge.
Gonna be so toxic at Oakwell if we don't beat Blackpool this week. My big worry is that we don't make the play offs, Collins is relieved of his duties straight after the game (Jose Morais style). We then proceed to take 2 months to sort out a new manager, are late/delayed in getting in the players we need and we dont kick into any sort of form until its too late and next season is a write off. If Collins is to go, i hope they've already lined up a replacement.
It couldn't be more different from Walsall. The crowd was 100% behind the players and manager and had absolute confidence that we were not only winning the semi, but going up. If we lose to Blackpool the Northampton game will be incredibly tense unless we score early and don't look back. The crowd will be on edge and only a couple of misplaced passes away from starting to turn. If we concede first it will be flat out toxic.
I`m getting very uneasy about the undercurrent of "do it or else!" attitude of a lot of the fan base. I`m pretty sure the Head Coach and the players are aware of what they need to do to get over the line without the threat of toxic atmospheres and general unrest. Although Tuesday night was ultimately disappointing against the best team in the league I saw nothing but everyone giving 100% and a collective will to get over the line. Have we lost our ability to act like supporters instead of a threatening mob? We don`t have a divine right to be to win or be promoted in this or any other season. COYR`s. ( My tin hat is well and truly on)
I think Collins knows his days are numbered. Most of the season he's been predictable, but on quite a few occasions lately he's changed our personnel and shape to try different things. He will be aware only promotion can stop him getting sacked.
I think our play-off place will be confirmed on Saturday. Draw or beat Blackpool and they are out of it. And Lincoln have a difficult game at Cheltenham who are certainly not on the beach.
The atmosphere will be terrible if it goes to the last game, mainly because we are playing terrible, & conceding a lot so the fans will be on edge. It’ll be a poor attendance anyway, plus constant reminders about keeping off the pitch at full time. And no doubt any chant that tries to get started will get a tannoy warning anyway. The club have a lot of work to do over the coming years, to get back a winning mentality throughout the club, if they want to start generating consistently good atmospheres. It doesn’t help being in league 1, but that’s our level now, & will be for some time.
This. I hope to God our 'rivals' for the Play Offs blow it this weekend because if they don't and we start badly against Northampton, it will be worse than toxic.
IRA and Pope chant has happened the last few home games without a tanoy announcement happening to warn people.
It's pretty much guaranteed that we'll be too late getting the players in that we need, it happens every season.
Maybe the club could work with the Council and get the corners filled in during the close season? A bit like Bournemouth. Maybe murals of players on billboards between the stands? That might aid the atmosphere.
Oakwell is much bigger than Dean Court and the enclosed design that they’ve managed wouldn’t work for us, unless they’re prepared to spend LOTS of money doing it.
