I'd be amazed if they did. I just don't think they're wired that way. I'm not even convinced they'll pull the trigger if we missed out on play offs.
We'll go 1-0 up inside 10 minutes, Collins subs McCart on with10 little bits of paper to dish out and we park the bus. Northampton score out of boredom in the 96th minute. Oxford, Lincoln, Blackpool all win.
If I was the directors I would invite Collins into the office and say we are not happy with our performances over the last 10 games we feel we need a different approach for the last game so Martin will set the team up and set tactics.
THIS! At the start of the season, if we knew we were one game away from a play off position, I suspect we'd take it. The idea that we should sack this year off and push on to promotion next year is for the birds - we're as likely to be relegated as promoted; so we have to take this last chance. The question is, how best can we do that? IMO we have little chance if Collins remains in charge. The atmosphere will be poor before the game and toxic if things go wrong. The disconnect between the support and the players/Coach/Board is huge. The 'one chance' I'd like to see the Board take is to thank NC for his services but remove him from his duties. Appoint Devanney or Eaden (or both) for the game and then make a public appeal to the support to get behind the team from the first minute to the last. Encourage scarves, flags, Klaxons, anything to create a bit of support and momentum. If we manage to win that game, the good feeling and momentum created might just get us through the play offs. At the very least it would provide some hope. At the moment there is none.
The cynic in me thinks that the board will have included a little clause in Collins' contract stating that should the play-off not be acheived, then the Club can cut ties with him for nothing. I think they'll wait and see what happens next week.
That wouldn't surprise me. There will be all kinds of clauses in contracts these days. There will also probably be an exit clause if Clubs comes in for him. I can't see the Club sticking with him if we fail to make top 6. The last quarter of the season has been atrocious. If we miss out on play-offs and they stick with him, they're effectively saying it was because the players weren't good enough - which is on them, not Collins. If we get to play offs I think it could go either way, depending on how they pan out.
Northampton have lost 3 of their last 5 and one of them was 2-0 to Fleetwood. They have also lost their last two. Surely we can win...
Don’t bet on it. They’ve not come up against a back line as bad as ours. We’ll chuck them two goals somehow.
