All I could see with the naked eye was a red patch in the sky but really bright even with all the street lights.

In 50 years of stargazing that's the best NL display I've seen, apart from one at 36,000 feet over Greenland. Just after midnight here in Barnsley the light columns seemed to emanate from a single point directly overhead creating a water fall effect. Really stunning, punching through the town's lamentable level of light pollution. .

A few quick edits of the 3 most important places in our village of Copmanthorpe. The pub, the inidam takeaway and the GP :.)

We went around Penistone last night but didn't really get the full effect of the northern lights, back in may we went to Ladybower. Is there anywhere else people can suggest that's fairly local to us to see the lights tonight?

Try using your phone instead of your eyes - it picks up the light better.

But we went comet spotting at Woolley Edge and that was a decent spot unless its changed in the last 20 years. Or your could try Langset possibly - or Dunford Bridge. Both of those should be darker.

Went out last night to view them. Nothing to be seen at all. Bloke walked past me as I'm looking up and asked if I was looking at the Northern Lights. I said I was trying but all I could see was a dark sky. He then took a photo, showed me it and there they were, clear as day, like the photos in this thread. But for me, if a phone camera can pick them up, but I can't see them, I still haven't seen the northern lights. My phone can access the Internet, doesn't mean I can claim to remote into it.
