He couldn't he was cramping up and spent 2nd half of extra time. In league games he rarely lasts a full 90 that's not a dig I like him he's really grown on me this season and was my motm Monday but the he should have started is fine but he would have been subbed before 90.
Give it a couple of years and we won't be far off..! On a serious note, we question the front 2 every week (well we have done in recent months), but there must be a reason why Norwood isn't starting as most of us wanted him to. Perhaps it is just a fitness thing, he worked his knackers off when coming on the other day - maybe Duff thinks he's better playing later on against tired legs (and tbf, it almost worked even with 10 men). Be interesting to see who Duff/board brings in to replace Tedic as a physical presence. Unless he's planning on utilizing Shaw after a full pre-season?
Cole won plenty in the air 1st half put himself about tedic was poor the pass from Phillips that put him in and his touch was one of a baby elephant. Norwood rarely lasts 90minutes
They changed their style somewhat and didn't play it across the back so much so it was difficult for us to deploy the high press we have against them before.
Norwood is the only striker I would happily keep. Cole, Tedic, & Watters not good enough if we are to push on. I’m really hoping a club further up the pyramid see’s Coles 16 goals as worth a gamble & offers a few Bob for him, we can do better. Tedic has been largely disappointing, took ages to get up to speed, but then only showed glimpses of quality, he’s not suited to English football, he’ll go abroad & be successful I reckon. It just didn’t work out for Watters, could have been a top signing, but his lack of effort when given a chance to stake a claim to a first team spot was disappointing. The striker position is a key position we need to sort out in the summer!
I’d happily keep Cole, but Tedic and Watters both leave with my best wishes. Neither are anywhere near their 2m price tag for me. Fact is they’ve looked average in Division 3. Then again, we said same about Ivan Toney, Adam Armstrong, Conor Chaplin etc.
I agree strikers are the main thing we need to sort if we can be up there again next season. Norwood- I like him but can't last a full 90 minutes Cole - I'd keep especially if duff is still here as the press from the front he is excellent at and has chipped in with goals. Needs more competition. Tedic- I wasn't impressed to be honest 1 decent game every so often. Hard to believe a club parted with 3 million for him. Watters- effort was lacking alot. I think there's a player in there changed the game away at mk just didn't work out. I'd keep Norwood and Cole try sign another and bring in a loan. Although jalo could be trying to get in the squad.
Watters did it for me in the final we were down to 10 every one else putting a shift in he comes on and was anonymous. Obviously came on to take a pen. Not surprised his chances under Duff were limited. Like I said I think there's a player there but he needs to work alot harder in future.
Norwood was immense when he came on. He’s a proper pro who some of our younger players will learn lots from. I’d definitely want to keep hold of him, he’s in great condition and a great club man. The Khaled news will almost certainly be the exit of some of the former owners….
My guess was I thought it would have been nareev and the crynes taking full control but surely we would know by now.
To try and be fair to Watters, you could see from his clip reel when we signed him, what type of striker he was. He's a box player, getting on the end of things. The couple of goals he scored for us were exactly that. Being in the right place, picking up the loose ball and putting it away. He'll probably be the first to say he isn't a physical striker, who grafts and presses defenders. Whereas Tedic probably would say he is that type of player - but he's nowhere near effective enough at it.
I'm assuming that we signed Oli Shaw with the intention of playing him at some point. Personally I'd like to get Watters back. Think he's got the potential to be a right player if used correctly.
I think the plan was to have him run them ragged in the last half hour, as their aging players tired. Unfortunately that game plan was ruined by the red card. With hindsight, Duff will probably wish he’d started with Norwood now, but it was a logical plan that would’ve worked but for two awful refereeing decisions
