Not enough emphasis on the name TYKES

do you think we should go back to our original nickname

THE COLLIERS personally i prefer it

 

bit far fetched now there's no pits in the area, but agree

I always thought the Tykes refered to any Yorkshire club really

 

Load of mills in Rotherham n'all

 

But we don't have a unique name

Ask a lot of folk that don't come from Barnsley what a Tyke is and they will say either someone from Leeds, or someone from Yorkshire.

 

Yes thats the beauty of it.....we are known by the name TYKES and this envelops all of Yorkshire

People of Yorkshire like all things associated with Yorkshire
We are the proudest of counties
So tag a team with an name such as TYKES and ALL parts of Yorkshire can associate with that team
ie. a person in Harrogate or Driffield or Wakefield etc etc etc who do not have a league team in their town
Plus of course we get away from the commonly used name REDS which is used by many clubs in the country
Think about it.......its a way to become something different and to sell the club
