There isn't any need for abuse but that doesn't mean players shouldn't be immune from criticism. It works both ways. Not criticising doesn't make you a better fan than someone else.
Again I class a lot of what has been posted as more than criticism. We are also criticising at every opportunity or every time we don't win. We just need to give the players, staff and owners a break and give them the opportunity to achieve theirs and our goals. I would say last season some of the players leaving didn't give their all and weren't happy with the environment created by the boo boys. Maybe the outcome last season may have been different with a buoyant supportive crowd. That bit is the only bit we can control. As for last night when the away support is larger than the home support that is embarrassing for the club, staff and supporters that did ho.
I went last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a 200 mile round trip for me but I'm old enough to remember when the League Cup mattered, so I thought the draw was an excellent one - though not half as good as the result. The number of Reds fans present was disappointing to say the least - which the made the number of Blunts fans who travelled amazing. However, I can't blame those Reds who decided not to attend. The Club has an air of decay and neglect about it - on and off the field - and has for some time. Last night felt like no more than a respite - though it was all the more welcome for that.
Almost as dull as the posts castigating any fan that ever has any criticism of anything to do with the club. We all want to be positive. As if we are all being positive then the team must be winning and the club being ran well and so on. Negativity from supporters can have just as much a positive effect - the ownership group have made changes based on fan grumbles, of that there is no doubt. We are all of a sudden both signing and being linked with players that have played the professional game and aren’t barely out of nappies for example; they brought the catering in house (and as bad as service is I personally think it’s better than when it was contracted out). The hex debacle was highlight by dissenting fans. Always being glass half full and being shiny and positive constantly might create an easy ride for the club and players; and there’s an argument we might want that, but leaving the club with no accountability is dangerous. That isn’t to say I agree with booing a team off the field - not something I’ve ever done or will do - but I’ve been critical or players, coaches, the directors on here on individual issues and more broadly. I’ll continue to speak freely on what I see/feel. I sincerely hope last nights result is a catalyst to much better home performances and results - the other things are always less important to the ones who take the criticism too far if the team is winning.
Some of the stuff, particularly on X, that is directed at JAQ in the main but others too, is absolutely abhorrent. I agree with you on that point.
No one has a problem with reasonable discussion about where we could improve on the pitch. The issue is that a lot of the criticism is reactionary and with a lack of understanding of context. everyone wants us to be as good as we can be some are less pragmatic about it.
