Height had absolutely nothing to do with the 2 goals we conceded. Davies didn't "outjump" someone for either of them - the first one he ran across the near post unchallenged, and the 2nd one he was goalside of whoever was marking him.

I don't know who the marker was, but height was nothing to do with it - just good movement/poor defending.

You didnt go yesterday did you?

Best defender on the pitch, passed the ball to his teammates better than any of our previous occupants of that position this season.

Err ! No, why is that relevant in this thread though?
I though we were discussing Hassell yesterday? He played in the middle and was many times the player in that position Wiseman has been! I

Given our lack of width and 'soft centre' i still think we should use 3 centre backs and let Hassell come out of that position into Greening's role as the deep holding midfield player when we have the ball. The width could then come from Goldbourne and Stones pushing on with Hassell as the spare man at the back. Matty Appleby played a similar role under Wilson and played it very well and it's perfectly suited to Hassell. We'd then have 3 in midfield (or 5 when going forward).

Hill clearly doesn't think the wingers are up to the job of providing crosses and beating men, hence the reverting to a narrow 3 in the middle. Clearly this makes providing width that much harder.

I thought it was a stroke of genius from Hill. Wiseman would have got ripped to shreds by the likes of zigic yesterday and as Scotty boy jumps about 5'6 he'd have been beaten in the air every time. So Hill put Hassell there to make him look stupid instead. Only problem is he came out of it the best defender we've had all season and Hill looked a bigger pillock than normal.

I thought hassells reading of the play was excellent. He realised he wasn't going to beat Zigic if he defended conventionally so he used a bit of brain power and never went directly behind him. Hassell was quicker than him so when he could see the ball was going to the birmingham striker he would try and beat to the ball or just drop off. Barnsley defended actually very well in open play with Steele Mcnulty and hassell all giving instructions to each other when needed and stones and golbourne did well.

The only fault i will have with him was telling stones were to be. Hassell got the ball and took it up field and stones rightly covered in behind him which hes been told to do from his u18 days when that things a normal thing. Hassell passed the ball and he tried to tell stones how to suck eggs wrongly. from the hand signals stones told him he was right and covered accordingly.

I'm a Hassle fan but I think alot are missing something here. If its extra Height you think we need I think I know where we can get it. We've got a 6'2 keeper who when his arms are up becomes 8', if he jumps he becomes 12'. Lets put a bit of responsability on our non jumping keeper(captain). We were just fortunate we didn't concede more due to his inability to jump. The defence are terrified of set plays because of Steeles inaffectiveness in the air.

Stones' positioning is his one weak point for me. He goes up the pitch with the ball and stays there leaving us with nobody at full back. Made Wiseman look even worse than he is
a few times this season doing that.

You reckon Steele can reach four feet over the bar when he jumps?

Tbf, I thought Steele was poor yesterday. Butland would have at least come for both goals. But then, commanding his area and kicking have always been Luke's undoing. Hence him being at Oakwell, not Old Trafford.

    Still better than Alnwick, though.

Steele can touch the cross bar stood straight so 3/4' with a jump should be possible.

Hemmsy its safe to come out and post today, your mate is on here again. Care in the community etc.

Steele was covered every time the ball was put into the box by at least one Brum player, stopping Steele coming out, at the other end we put no-one near Butland, therefore enabling him to get the ball easily!

Shaquille O'Neil is 7'1" and can reach 9'5" standing still and even he can only jump 12'5"

I saw Michael Jordan jump 50 feet in the air once. In a Nike advert. And he did it again. In the film Space Jam.
