We're 50/1 to get promoted, so a 2% chance. It's a lot of money to risk on such a small chance of promotion.
Say we sell him for 500k to Norwich or Wednesday...... 1) It gives the rest we want to sign back up another reason to leave us because it would show a massive lack of ambition. 2) It would piss off the fans for selling to a local rival or a play off rival or both. 3) It would significantly weaken our goal scoring options which would likely mean a drop down the league from our current position. 500K is peanuts all things considered.
If they sell him for 500k they are daft. Scott Hogan is going for 12 million and nobody on here can tell me Hogan is any better than Winnall. id rather keep him, Hourihane, Scowen and Watkins and let them all go for free if they chose not to sign in the summer than give other clubs in our division assets. If it was a Premiership club that had come in for Winnall with lets say 3 million, id consider that as the player is bettering himself. My approach would be to roll the dice, sell Bree for the 4 million quoted with a sell on clause as he has giants after him and would be bettering himself greatly. Then id use some of that 4 million to offer Watkins, Scowen, Winnall and Hourihane good deals and tell them firmly they arent going till the summer, and they can consider our offer or chose to leave at the end of the season when we have time, resources and scope to get replacements in without panic buying and everybody would be a winner even at worse case scenario.
Maybe for the players but not the club. As far as I know only in the prem does finishing position impact on prize money. Apart from the obvious financial benefits of being promoted.. finishing 8th or 17th the club would get the same money.
