I’m just joshing mate and was referencing TM being silly. I get your point but loyalty doesn’t exist in football.
You make a fair point here. It's not as if we can be seen as exactly loyal to players and managers either. I'd still take him now, but hopefully we can avoid a "minimum release" clause for once.
1) Fannies 2) Not fannies Joking apart, Michael Duff is one of the most loyal people in modern football. Nigh on a 20 year career with only 2 clubs before he came to us. Laying the blame for his departure solely at his door without being party to the internal machinations of the club isn't right, in my opinion.
There's nothing immediate the book is still open.. Don't we have to give notice to stop insider dealing?...Like the Club tea lady phoning here brother in Glasgow saying.. " put a grand on Duff for me and I'll split it with you".. .
If you follow the FB link it was posted on 1st May and they'd gathered at the Institute of Sport in Sheffield on 30th April. Hecky was there as well as Leam Richardson and Wayne Rooney.
Aye.. only 5 pages and the first reasonable post with a bit of facts in it... We're getting better on here you know PS.. this timeline coincides with the lump on as well.. now its coming clear..
Whoever gets it.. it won't please everyone. The 'dint want him' brigade normally outweighs the 'yep he'll do for me' camp.. every time..
I think it's possible to fall between the two camps. When Duff left, I was as annoyed as the next bloke, precisely for the reasons you've set out. He'd made a point of telling us he was different, somehow above the lure of the cash of modern football and invested in the project. Even when he left Swansea, if we'd been doing badly and a return was cited then, I'd have been against it for the same reason you are now. But our circumstances have changed, and so have his. Our team has shown weaknesses all season that I think Duff could well be the right coach to resolve, and we're without a manager at a crucial point in planning for next year. Duff is out of work and ready to get going straight away if appointed. I also think he's shown he's a fairly intelligent bloke, and I think we need to at least consider the possibility that he now considers the move a mistake. Even if he doesn't (his bank balance being a strong persuader on that), it doesn't mean that the experience might not make him consider whether the grass is really greener if the same situation occurred again. As others have said I don't need to trust him with my nearest and dearest, I just need to trust him to do a better job for us next season than the other candidates available. Which I wholeheartedly do. This is a football decision, we (incl.the board) need to put sentiment aside and make the choice that gives us the best chance of being successful next season.
BTW I'd have him, I'd love him back here.. it's just that I've not seen anything to substantiate it..
I'd welcome him back with open arms but i think too many here (including myself) were naive and took his comments at the start of his last tenure as gospel. Fair enough say what you want to try win fans over quickly, go into town for a pint and talk to a few of the locals, call us a big club and get some Wednesday jokes in there as well. We were all naive enough to think it meant more than a few words and if he comes back he won't be able to pull the same trick twice. I'd love him back but as we should've done last time, i expect if a better offer comes along in the future he'll take it.
