In other news the library is coming on, and again, I'm sure that's due to be open next month. It would be nice if the old new temporary market would be taken down quicker as it looks a bit of a mess at the moment. Re the newsletter, I explicitly remember them saying they were taking a break. Anyway, thanks for the heads up, I've re-signed up.
Brilliant, used the meat market for the past 8 years, the new one is a lot cleaner, smells a lot better and the design is bright and spacious. The footfall has increased ten fold now they are in a prime position in the town. The other side of the market is also a lot neater although l don't know why they haven't painted the ceilings when you first walk in, they have throughout the rest of the building.
That first stall to the right as you enter opposite Boots (Barkers of Barnsley?) must be good. They had a queuing system in place which I thought was just for Christmas .... but they used it last Saturday. Always busy.
Oh really? That may be not too bad then. As the resident expert on the improvements any clue on what the next thing to be completed is?
Is that across the town centre as a whole or just certain areas. I read a parking notice on Peel St a few weeks ago which stated the Monday to Saturday parking fees so I didn’t chance it. My mate said it was free but the sign implied it wasn’t
The entire town centre pretty much. The only restrictions are that temporarily due to the reduced parking spaces (as the multi story has been knocked down) some space are limited to I think two hours
Looks a tad unfinished in my opinion. Next is probably the library, bridge is delayed, then phase 2 the square etc. After that they are looking at Peel street and Wellington street.
That part behind Wellington Street really needs a facelift. Castlereagh & Blucher St are from different time zones..
Apart Chennels, Shakespeare, Corner Pin they're looking at not renewing anymore licenses and completely changing the area. Would be good to open up the theatre as a theatre again.
Been into town this afternoon specifically to look at the market. The finish is a lot better than I expected with only the one area having east stand ceilings. Not quite sure why they did that but I hope they do something with it. It's hard to really judge the take-up of stalls when they're only part way through the project because of all the doorways and corridors boarded off for construction I think it gives a false impression of emptiness. That market kitchen looks fantastic but the actual seating area should be changed with higher quality seating meadowhall style being added, the actual cafes look really professional. There is a mother trucking disco ball hanging from the main atrium. I have no words The finish on the pavements outside is fantastic. A real big improvement for the whole town centre look and feel. Can't wait to see what else is done. As a random extra comment does anyone know if the building next to m&s on the corner of peel square has recently had any work done? It looked really clean and fresh. Think it's one of the banks but I can't remember
Chennells will still be there in 100 years. I don't mind W Street personally, just the back streets just seem shady.
