I can't fully agree with that. The problem for me was that we were trying to play this way, whilst Notts County were pressing our back 4. I thought they were a very energetic team who worked hard and tried to force us into mistakes. There were a couple of occasions where Nyatanga and Ramage in particular gave away the ball when we were passing it along our back line. The problem for me was that there wasn't enough show from the midfield to want to get the ball moving. Digby was the only one showing for the pass but he often just went back to one of the full backs. I Personally didn't see us play like this in the first 15 minutes when we went a couple of goals up. Whatever it was that changed, killed our momentum.
The players don't help matters. When they were playing positive with attacking football that put them 2-0 up the fans were great. But soon as the second went in we went defensive, sat deep and tried to play keep ball. This made the crowd edgy and i'm sure at 2 up plenty in the crowd could see we'd changed the way we'd played beforehand and that Notts County were likely to score shortly which they did.
It depends, yes pass it about and draw them out, but when your attempting to do it facing your own goal with players snapping at yer heels it generally leads to losing possession in a dangerous area and then oh ****. That is summat Winnall and others have done well, when pressing and gaining possession in recent weeks. Ramage was praised tother week for his no nonsense approach, think he should spread the word.
