    My father-in-law changes gear when the engine reaches a sufficiently high pitch for people to actually stop in the street and point at the car as if it's a UFO.

    My dad was like that....and he'd change down far too early so the car lurched! One time, I'd broke my ankle, and he was driving me to the hospital in my car, I was cringeing wondering what damage he was doing. Funny that he never thought he was doing anything wrong yet every car he had he had to have the clutch replaced!

    Some use it for optimum performance too, i know on my car the turbo kicks in at around 2800rpm.
