Whilst it's a vast amount to the majority on here, myself included, 10K a week isn't exactly crazy money in 2024. The fact that we don't routinely pay those kinds of wages is, whilst prudent, the very reason we languish in L1. We lose our players whether they love it here or not, because we pay them 4/5 grand a week. Then teams come in and offer them - as ridiculous as it sounds - appropriate wages for the level, and they leave. Until we can pay these wages to more than one or two players, which in itself causes unrest. We will never progress, it just isn't possible.
I think we have to be prudent though. We,re seeing more and more clubs at our level and some slightly above who are in big trouble which have seen some losing points, been given transfer embargos etc. 3/4 k a week is a very good League one wage.If you get promotion to the Championship you can then increase your budget.Although some clubs in the Championship pay money way above what they can afford I believe the average wage is around 5k a week and that is what we should be aiming for.Steady progression without putting the club in any financial danger.
Like most on here I'm elated that we've finally seen the back of the second waste of space from the Conman era, like some I also think the probability of brown envelopes changing hands is highly likely. But to take a different stance and look forward we need to put something in place that stops the likes of Conman spaffing our money up the wall without any sort of approval or control from all at board level. lets learn from this fiasco and ensure it doesn't happen again
Definitely a difference between “spaffing” it up the wall due to incompetence compared to corruption. I’m sure the club have wasted plenty of cash previously but hopefully any evidence that may or may not exist regards Conway’s Belgian Heist has been turned over to the EFL by the current board.
John Hendrie was on more than that in the Premier League. Years ago (maybe when Andy Ritchie was mamager) he was a guest on that Yorkshire football programme that used to come on a Thursday night (I forget what it was called) and he was talking about how we seemed to be on the up again after the dark years post Admin. He said that we were giving silly contracts out when he was at the club, and mentioned being on £12k a week, which was a hell of a lot for back then.
Around 12k for Hammill Same as Woodrow, around 12 - 13k. But wouldn't give Mowatt anywhere near those figures. Crazy.
I do wonder if the wage structure and squad size is a bit out of whack though. We seem to operate a system of having 3 players on 5k, rather than one on 12k. End result more players, more expense and ultimately players getting in each others way in terms of their development. There must be a way of having a wage structure that allows 2 or 3 higher earners within the current budget.
He will bang in plenty for them. The truth will out one day. Nobody should be buying that he wasn't good enough when you see some of those picked over him. There has to be more to it.
He has some talent. He played a fair bit in Ligue 1 in France, remember him scoring a brilliant goal for Metz v Lyon (who back then were a top 3 side). Just never settled at the club and clearly had some issues, whether attitude or otherwise. Shame, and an expensive shame at that.
I don't believe we know that for sure. We know from his few games with us he was better than many who was played before him.
I dont think any Barnsley player as ever been on 10k. Hammils dad said when Adam was signing for Wolves they,ed offered him 12k a week.
Thought so. Woodrow took his foot off the gas after that extension he was all set to join Cardiff if I remember right then he ended up signing a new deal.
