There are people defending it? I shouldn't be shocked I suppose. The state of the world right now is worrying, so yeah. Absolutely no excuse for what was posted. The guy who did it has spent the last couple of years on twitter acting like some kind of court jester amongst a group of fellow idiot fans. It's the current generation and the trend to be edgy and controversial for likes. Instead of getting offline and getting a life. It shouldn't make a difference, but it does to me - this was referencing one of our own players. And by all accounts (the SLO's and other fans on twitter have spoke about it) this tweet was screenshot and reported to the club who have acted on it. If anyone witnesses racist abuse, online or offline, relating to the club, then I'd urge them to report it. Racism is abhorrent. It's just the worst.
I haven't seen and don't know about the example that has been made here. I don't know or care 'how bad' it might be on this mythical scale of racism. I don't want to look. You know exactly what I'm referring to though, and I'm pretty sure you and anyone else reading follows my point.
You're referring to the idiots who sing about Diaby? I think that's a bit different from the incident in question, that you aren't interested in. Different, but still racist in my eyes. More difficult perhaps for the club to prove, harder to get the evidence? I dunno. Do you think those taking part in that chant should also be banned, like this idiot in question?
I saw the tweet he’s referring to and it definitely happened. It’s a young lad who committed the offence so while I’m glad he’s been banned from Oakwell, I’m also glad we’re offering him the chance to go on a course that hopefully helps him see the errors of his way and expands his currently narrow mind.
When I started bringing my very young grandkids, one of the guys who sits near us gave them £1 every time he swore. They loved it. They are older now and he’s stopped swearing, but gives them chocolate at every match at half-time. Getting the balance right between offensive language and just letting off steam is difficult. But I doubt that my grandkids will ever forget his kindness.
No it's not. No need to swear OR 'let off steam' at a football match and nobody will ever change my mind on that.
Yes but there is right and wrong in society and 'effing and jeffing' in front of children is wrong. Full stop.
I fully agree. You can hardly walk though the town centre without wanting to confront someone uttering vile language. All I would add though, is that football stirs passions, and even decent people can sometimes transgress. For what it’s worth, I do not swear in public. Like most people my age, I confine any necessary swearing to when I’m with male friends or colleagues. Or when some ******** driver does something stupid
