I’m not sure that I’m even remotely surprised to be honest. I don’t go to many away games anymore, only one last season. No plans to this season at the moment. We’ve always had a few idiots but it seems to me in recent years, back maybe six, eight years and continuing to today, that we have an ever growing idiot element regularly attending away games who seem intent only to wind up stewards by doing exactly what they want, particularly if they’re told not to, and to the cost of everyone else attending - whilst clearly being at the very least pissed, and I suspect many of them to have been coked off their tits. I still won’t take my lad away now - and he’s 16 next week. Before covid, at an away game just over the Pennines, I was threatened by a group of young reds ‘fans’ walking up to the ground. Because they assumed I was a Bolton fan. Same season, a group were all stood smoking while queuing for a drink at half time at West Brom, then threatened the steward who came to tell them to put them out, leading to several more stewards coming, throwing them out. Same night, a post was put on here moaning about heavy handed stewards physically throwing innocent fans out from the concourse at half time who’d done no wrong… Some of the hugely inappropriate songs sung are more obvious away as well, and I suspect the same ‘men’ that are in that corner of the ponty are responsible away as well. Neanderthalic and idiotic behaviour, selfishness beyond all reasonability, seems to be not only accepted but also expected and applauded by a decent proportion. There are of course many regular away supporters who none of this applies to and I applaud them for their patience in continuing to attend in the face of this all.
Most of us alcoholics who hit the drink every game are harmless I reckon some of these lads who act like animals are either on drugs or hard spirits
That's an easy one. I've seen small scale disorder at Barnsley games. I've never seen thousands of Barnsley fans running around a stadium to indiscriminately attack families. I've seen a number of ******** Barnsley fans turn a blind eye to disgusting behaviour but I've never seen thousands upon thousands of fans turn a blind eye to violence, pretend it isn't going on and just move out of the way to let thugs attack kids. I've seen our supporters trust put out statements condemning bad behaviour from our fans. I've never seen our supporters trust put out a statement defending it and blaming the victims Oh and I've never seen us produce merchandise that glorified violence either
The thing is, in general the club know the identities of a lot of Barnsley fans posting racism on Facebook and on twitter because club employees are friends with them. The club, if they're competent, know the identities of people causing trouble at away games. They must do because general fans recognise them. So why are they still sold tickets?
I went to an away game last year. Maybe I got unlucky but the majority of people around me were utter scum, from abusing stewards, to being apoplectic when our players took the knee, to running street fights with opposition fans after the game. I will never understand, no matter your passion for Barnsley Football Club, why you would pay to spend an afternoon in the company of these awful people.
You do know about 35,000 millwall fans were at wembley and there were about 50 or less causing trouble, as mentioned earlier its tarring everyone with the same brush
There were hundreds not less than 50. And you seem to have ignored everything else. The key thing is barnsley fans get condemned by Barnsley fans for disgraceful behaviour and by the club and by the supporters trust. Millwall fans get defended by their fans, the club and their supporters trust. That's why it's tarring everyone with the same brush because it's engrained in the very fabric of their club. Their club motto is no-one likes us, we dont care for god's sake
One key point is... trouble at millwall always seems to come at wembley or big tv games I dont even think its real fans half the time I honestly dont believe our fanbase can claim to be better behaved
Tickets are easy to get hold of, especially when they go to general sale. Bit of a statement accusing club employees of knowing who the racists are. Or indeed friends of em. Any evidence ?. I go to most if not all the away games and rarely if ever hear racist abuse. General abuse yes, by the bucket load. But I don't know most of em from Adam. Our fans are no Angel's in some cases. But are in general supportive of the team. Loud maybe but its allus been thus with young uns. (And some older ones) I have no problem taking my grandkids. Round about 2018 was a real concern but most of the culprits were rounded up and called on by the police. Once they'd sorted the ringleaders out (generally older feckwits who haven't grown up and never will) . It changed dramatically. The one or two who were pulled by the police on saturday. if true normally go by train and went on an unofficial coach because of the strike, and were roundly banned by the organisers.
Well yeah the evidence is that they are literally friends on Facebook or were the last time I checked. I didn't mean personal friends I meant Facebook friends. And I don't mean that they know them all but they certainly know the identity of quite a few people. I can't honestly say how much racism and general disgusting behaviour there is at matches these days as I no longer go to away games precisely because of the racism and behaviour from our fans every time I've gone.
When was the last time you went. Because that has not been the case in general for a long time. (Racist language) Only an isolated incident like saturday. And have you thought about reporting said racists yourself. I dont do twitter and little Facebook.
Sadly we're no angels on our travels. Don't know if we're better or worse than other clubs, I'd imagine we're fairly average. Last season I saw racism, drug use and property damage at Wednesday. Racism, sexism and property damage at Accrington. Refusing to follow steward's orders resulting in people being unable to get into the stand and watch the match and racism at Burton. Sexism, homophobia, racism and property damage at Lincoln. Drug abuse and property damage at Wembley. Not to mention drug abuse, sexism and racism at Oakwell. It's made worse by the fact that if you try and call any of this behaviour out you just become a target for the perpetrator and the rest of the idiots.
Not since before COVID to be fair and yes I have done basically every time I've come across it. Can't blame you for avoiding those two places
Never going for an egg chase or bum ever again. Neanderthal's the lot of em'. Apox on them. Joking aside. Horrible being abused at work. I get fat jibes all the time. "You look well". "Bye you've put some timber on". Hurts just as much as "you fat *******" or "fat c u next Tuesday".
Same. I gave up away games a fair few years ago due to it. My brother in law is black and we used to go home and away together a lot. He lost interest for obvious reasons then so did I - especially after the death of my dad a few years back. (Edit: just read this back and it reads like my sob story. Didn't mean to come across that way). Haven't been to a home game for about a year either, but there were numerous examples of racism in the ESL. One that sticks in my mind was when we had a black lino, and he was met with comments such as "keep up with play, I thought they were supposed to be fast" and "get your flag up, if it was a spear it would be up". I reported it the steward supervisor who I saw every home game who basically didn't want anything to do with it. Granted things might have improved in the last few years, but examples such as this make me things I've made the right decision.
