A fantastic signing. Quality. Experience. A leader. I was at the Fulham game away where the fans were singing that song for Hourihane and Rimmington for what felt like half an hour. I'm sure he wiped a tear away at one point. Great to have him home. Time for old heroes.
It's clear from the comments just how highly thought of Conor is throughout the game, both by fans and fellow pros. Brilliant move to bring him back - his presence both on and off the field is going to be immense. Now, just to bring Robbo back to steady the defence!
Nothing scattergun about singing a bunch of proven league one players on freebies. What we usually do is what you call scattergun in signing lots of unproven players hoping a few come off.
I don’t think signing loads of players all at once usually works. I know they all seem to be decent signings but there’s no guarantee they’ll gel as a new team
At the moment, at this particular time and at this level Hourihane looks potentially like a good signing. Be interesting to know the input that the coach had and what relationship the board expect Clarke and Hourihane to have. Its got to be a good one. Any disharmony will be no good for the club.
It's a good point and I'm fully expecting they'll be pulling together because success for the club can only be good for both of them. There is always the spectre that, if things are not going great further down the line Conor is going to be naturally seen as the next manager in waiting and Clarke might be looking over his shoulder a bit. Hopefully though Clarke will leave a couple of seasons from now for a bigger challenge after getting us promoted then stabilising us first season back at tier two. Then Conor steps in.
It’s just not his playing ability, I think he will be great captain because he’s pretty good at directing referees too!
His Instagram comments are even more impressive. Full of blue tick accounts. Roberts, Fletcher, Mowatt McBurnie, Isgrove, Cole and Yiadom. Plenty that haven't played for us such as Konsa, Curtis Davies, Ian Taylor and Snodgrass and many more.
Disagree, didnt Charlton do it last year? They were near relegation spots for large parts of season until Jones came in and turned them into draw specialists
