Renewed this morning. Much as the entertainment value has been totally lacking at home all season, it’s as much about meeting up with the mates for a few beers before & after as it is the actual match
Started going in mid 50's you went to the reserves in those days til your dad said you were ok to go to first team. My first league match was last match in 58/59. Since then there have been loads of ups and downs but I kept going. I was one of the thousands cheering them off Oakwell after losing 6 0 to Charlton but this Dumbo and his tactics and style of play has taken 6 months to totally kill my enthusiasm and allegiance to the club.
My decision is more of a practical one depending on whether they're planning to continue the stupid closure of the car park at 2:30pm. I didn't renew my car park season ticket because of it and have parked at the Courthouse this season. However, if there's any hold up getting away from Leeds (and quite often we clash with their home games) then I've been unable to get parked there and been left struggling to find an alternative at that point. It boils my piss to know that there's a half-empty car park where I've parked for at least 10 years previously that someone has arbitrarily decided to block off from access. I don't mind waiting around at the end of a game to set off home. What I do value is the knowledge of having a pre-booked parking space available at the ground that isn't closed off to me if I arrive 30 minutes before kick-off. Ultimately, my decision whether or not to renew will factor that into account more than the lack of entertaining football witnessed at Oakwell for most of this season.
Me and my lad have renewed. I openly admit I haven’t been on the edge of my seat, much this season, with the dour football. But do acknowledge that Collins has somehow got a weak team into the top six so he has my respect for that. But this will always be my team and we may get worse before we get better, but I will stick by them.
Not even considering renewing been an horrendous watch at Oakwell this year and only can only make Saturday games which about 4 have been moved to Tuesdays this season so missed out on those also.
Actually that's a good point, cancelling games for meaningless international call-ups needs to stop.. It's third division football fcs.
Not me, had enough, my interest in football in general is slipping away. First season without a season ticket since the 90s, will go back to picking and choosing odd games like before we got STs. Will watch on iFollow too and maybe go to odd away game. The entertainment level from a game of football is not worth the regular 100 mile round trip. Mi fatha and r kid also not renewing, both since 90s like me.
I was at Headingley on Saturday and before they started a bloke sat near us with his two young lads got a shirt and bats signed by Harry Brook - they were both over the moon and it clearly made their day. Memories for Dad & lads created.
I’m totally undecided, but not for the same reason as you. I’m just finding it harder and harder to get in the car for a long drive there and back, especially if the weather isn’t great. I do like having a ST and that feeling of club membership that comes with it, but it does pressurise me a bit when it comes to match day. That slog up Oakwell Lane is getting harder as well, especially after this season with too many home defeats. I’d probably consider buying a car park ticket if it wasn’t so hard getting in and out. I’m leaving the decision a while. Maybe I’ll book your seat if it’s going spare
What about the club actually giving encouraging reasons to renew? Something that says that they'll invest to procure better players, or indeed any other incentive to turn up at Oakwell. I'll renew, but with a heavier heart than usual. I know that these owners are sticking money in to Barnsley for my personal entertainment and are losing it. I'm thankful for that. And there is no queue to replace them. I reckon that next season we'll start sinking further down. So the club need to say more than "buy a cheap ticket before it disappears".
