That is wonderfully written, with such sincerity. It's raw and beautiful. You can't write like that if you don't believe in the words you are writing. Whoever wrote that, you've done Eric proud, and all of us by representing us, and hopefully Andrew too. We've lost an Oakwell legend and his son is our friend. Time for us all to be the best we can be and reign in our excesses. I'm going to try.
Thanks mate another blub from me. That was written by Whitey earlier. I didn’t know what to do, should I contact the club or not. I spoke to Andy who was devastated and genuinely was gutted. I trusted his judgement along with his team to do my Dad proud. He has and I thank them all for it profusely.
There are people working for the club at the moment, and it's been obvious this last year, who are genuine Barnsley and bend over backwards. There was no bending over backwards on this occasion, it's obvious the high esteem they hold for your dad, they didn't need to try, the emotion was already there. And you knew this too because you reached out. They're cut from the same cloth as your dad. You've friends there and you've friends here too mate if you need anything. Let's have a drink when we're back open again.
Very sad news indeed. Eric wasnt just a barnsley FC legend he was a nice bloke and great dad. Growing up in Darfield and friends as a young un with Andrew, i saw Eric as massive bloke towering me in the street or wen i went to call on andrew. I worked at Top Chef chinese in Darfield from 1995 to 1999 and Eric came in a few times a month for some snap and he must of hated me as I talked Barnsley FC to him constantly. Its a sad time for everyone related to barnsley FC. RIP big Eric
I am mate. I am passing on all the messages to him at the moment. Well not now like, he sleeps 16 hours a day! Thanks for your kind words Bruv.
He loved it mate in longbow everybody talked to him about tarn always had time for everyone.football team used to get old nets frm oakwell, he sorted a charity football match out on top field king ronnie played.i wa a regular starter for bow but never got on pitch, i was only 18 and got told had av other opportunities a wa gutted.but i remember we'd started sprayin nets at tarn and they got handed to us eric had got them given to his local.class,i got 15 goals that yr knowing had hit same net as reds players.he wa fantastic for darfield.
Beautiful words from the club the feeling of loss echos from us all ....God bless Eric I hope he had a peaceful transition to spirit
Andy bless ya, I definitely think a soul leaves the body, it apparently weighs 21grms, there was a film about it.i think theres life after death but am gonna shut it before i get grief.
It would be most fitting to replace all the usual crap with a piece on Winnie in the Playoff Final program. So come on lads do it for him tomorrow.
R.I.P. Eric, true legend and generally all round nice guy, who will be missed by many. Sad day for sure.
Excellent tribute. I know they probably don't know him personally but I hope we hear a few current players talking about him.
