Unless things are very different this time - can you remember how long it took to appoint the previous 2 managers.
Blimey, if he's read that statement and compared to it to yesterday's, there's gonna be a young Josh Widdecombe looky-likey wandering the lonely streets of Gelsenkirchen almost suicidal, feeling that everything's his fault!
Which is vitally important to them of course. Because as was pointed out on here only a few days ago - Barnsley has the wealthiest directors in the Championship. So clearly they will be looking to save every penny.
Given the length of time we have known this was happening i would fully expect our management team to have a replacement lined up and ready to go in the coming days. After all once the clause was triggered to speak to him it clearly would have triggered us speaking to others. Well thats what any forward thinking and proactive organisation would be doing. Lets see .....
They couldn't do anything on rumours, a formal approach was only made a couple of days before the Boro game
Given RB are on record their process started a month ago to get Struber, we should be well on the way to appointing.
You'd think so seeing as our board admitted they were keeping tabs on Struber while Stendel was still in position. Mind you, that still took ages to get over the line.
But didn't Struber say his agent was speaking with clubs for months? The club obviously knew of this. Also the club have stated they have looked at future coaching prospects so i would have expected us to have a short list already and perhaps even sounded some clubs out. We perhaps saw a lot of this as rumour but clearly our club officials were much closer to the reality. I would say it isnt an unusual practice to have a succession plan in place and have stepped up its progression in recent weeks.
A lot have people have praised the board and said that this shows they can be professional. I'm the opposite. I think that this gushing statement makes them look like absolute pillocks and hypocritical pillocks at that. They give a gushing farewell to struber despite his disgraceful outburst at the weekend and yet have still not altered or apologised for the ludewig statement or the Stendel statement. All this false praise for Struber does is make those statements look even worse and make our owners decision to make those statements even more abhorrent. It's not just an overly nice statement it's also extremely misleading "Tasked with maintaining the Club’s Championship status, he took a difficult position at Oakwell last November. Despite the seven point deficit and COVID-19 , his belief never wavered" I don't know about anyone else but that makes it sound like he took over in November with a 7 point deficit and miraculously overcame it. That's simply bit true. We were on 9 points and 4th bottom was on 14 (and if you take Wigan's points deduction into account then we were actually only 4 points off safety. We only dropped to 7 points from 4th bottom whilst Struber was manager when we slipped further behind the rest. I honestly believe that statement is for some reason designed to deliberately give the impression that the gap was bigger than it was when he took over. I also think that this "As much as we wanted Gerhard to remain at Oakwell we were not in a position to deny him this opportunity with a buy-out clause in his contract and his connection within the Red Bull set-up." Is deliberately trying to paint the club in a nice friendly kind light. We couldn't deny him the opportunity because of his connection to red bull. Erm you mean legally you couldn't stop him. It isn't 'we couldn't deny him this opportunity' at all. Sorry but over the top false praise doesn't make things right, it just makes everything else worse.
That's at least £4m they've raked in this season, without the cash from last. Statement of intent required, Eddie Howe please. Of course I know it won't happen. We'll leak a couple of bang average names, who'll turn us down and Murray will keep it and they'll claim he was always their first choice.
He did keep us up and like his predecessors ran into the brick wall of the owners recruitment policy and as I have already called it the un-recruitment policy. Any successful manager/coach at Barnsley moves on. This did not suddenly change 2017. I think that Tim Ward was the first of our managers to move on to better things back in the 50s. Likewise we have been a selling club since we became professional.
Red Bulls head of sport Kevin Thelwell said of Struber's appointment: "The quality of the candidate pool further solidified our confidence in Gerhard as a top choice to lead our team" In other words the others were so **** poor we had to give it to Struber?
In fairness Becky for the block had pubic lice last time I heard. Shaz from Shafton's only issue was she did 2 litres of woodpecker every evening.
Really couldn't give a toss, we've cashed and his influence had clearly started to fall off. His agent clearly loved the fact his public image post Brentford was on the rise and shopped him around. Its football it's a business not a game so I'm not bothered. New broom sweeps clean, everyone gets a new start to impress and hopefully it'll reset our season. Paul Cook come on down! With 3 new players to strengthen the spine of the team please. Target/linkman is a must, and Cauley is a striker by the way so let him play there and enjoy himself.
