It's actually a very common thing that a lot of websites do. Facebook has the same thing on their website. It's because a few years ago there was issues with scammers instructing users to open the developer consoles and paste commands in to 'unlock features' or 'hack a friends account' or something else that people might want to do on facebook etc. but what actually sent the users' session cookie or other information to a third party site. So facebook added this warning in, to try and alert users that they shouldn't paste things into there.
Thank you, that makes perfect sense now. I'd never seen it before, so my original post was a complete red herring
