...get 30 unsolicited calls a week.
I'm not questioning the ethics. I'm questioning whether basic processes are in place.
And you're right... the purchase and sharing of OPTED IN marketing data is very common, more than people are actually aware I suspect. To share information without consent is a breach.
Where you get 30 unsolicited calls from your sold marketing data.... I don't tend to get any.
I do however get unsolicited e-mails galore despite me opting out of sharing my data.
Well I can confirm Jewsons have those processes.
I'd be absolutely flabbergasted if BFC didn't.
"Fix-up the West Stand for us and we'll give you 3 months free advertising".
"We want 6 months".
"How about 4 months?"
"It's a deal"
"Newsbot, get announcing that Jewsons are our new sponsor".
It doesn't seem that BFC have an obvious mechanism to alter your personal preferences and opt out.
My two expectations from this are simply, 1) my data isn't being sold. 2) BFC don't get an ICO fine.
Handy to supply the bricks and blocks needed to brick up the goal when both Collins and Walton are sold on the last day transfer window.
If you want to change your marketing preferences it's through your account on e-ticketing. Pretty simple process where you go your account:
Then go to update details to opt in/opt out:
I hope you all know that when they recovered Robert Maxwells body from the sea, he had a receipt in his pocket for “one jewson handrail “
Such as when they sent out the vouchers people had paid to within 10 months of them being paid for
Or when they took amazing photos of everyone's paid for NHS shirts proudly in the stands past season
The digital Access zone that people paid for was lovely 2 years ago wasn't it.
Obeying the law like that you mean?
While reading the thread I was thinking it's probably in the thingymabob where you buy tickets.
And you've shown it is. But that got me thinking about all the fans who have never bought a ticket online, who don't even own a computer, who buy match tickets with used fivers they keep under the mattress.
Not in relation to BFC. Of all the companies I have any kind of relationship with, the one I'm least worried about with regard to my personal data is Barnsley FC.
I was thinking in general terms. How do people who buy things over the counter or over the phone opt out of marketing and data sharing?
It’s all covered here
Sorry I meant obeying the law where if the broke it they'd be hit with massive fines.
If anyone reported them they'd have been hit with fines for those breaches of the law wouldn't they?
Doubt it. I thought you had?
Nope I threatened that kind of action, I never said I'd sued them.
I'm sure if they were reported for false advertising in 19/20 they would have been found guilty and a fine would have followed.
Jewson say: "Everything we do is designed to bring customers closer to the action, whether that be through tickets, content or simply seeing us supporting something that brings them great enjoyment." They've made a bad choice there then.
Good question. I’m guessing that they’ll either not have any data on file because they’ve never filled anything in, or when they’ve filled a form in manually with a pen they’ll not submit an e-mail address and have the boxes to tick to opt out?
You would have to phone the club/company to retrospectively opt out or reply to any texts with ‘stop’ or something like that?
No idea how you stop phone calls though as how do you know which company is sharing your data?
I can’t remember what the previous season deal was. We’re we due an exclusive one off t-shirt? Remember names in the tunnel (which has happened) and something about the captain’s armband?
I think 19/20 was a digital Access zone and exclusive behind the scenes tours. 20/21 was arm band with names on and players tunnel which only happened after fans complained and t-shirts on the seats in the stadium which when fans complained about not having the club said oh weve found out we aren't allowed in case they catch fire
