On the other hand Gally, I know of one long-standing friend who had a ticket for that area who probably couldn't walk that far, and is unlikely to be attending next season (after nigh on 70 years). As he usually brings a further friend of his, there are two doubts there. I've never parked behind the East Stand myself, I hasten to add.
Because of the crowds on the roads after the game, there was nearly a bad accident with a car going through the crowds on a few occasions so BMBC decided to take action.
Also if you want to get a train from Wombwell, be aware that Wombwell is split in two, and will be until July.... the short cut through the wood has disintegrated due to the high traffic, and the entire place is a mess....
Someone I work with stopped attending this season after he lost his parking space there too. He is in his early 60s and has knee problems so longer walk in the cold weren't a option for him. And he said no way would he park in the Ponty car park.
Went through the woods a few week ago about 1pm for a match and it was chaos so I wouldn’t recommend going that way to anyone this Saturday. Also remember they are laying new road down from the Ash pub towards Tesco at stairfoot so expect delays there. Also don’t know if it’s started yet but I work for a gas mains replacement company and there’s going to be weeks worth of work on Wombwell high street just to add to the drama, so yeah. Chaos.
Irrelevant to our issue, they can also separate away fans at 90% of the grounds with a line of stewards...
Is your comment about the stewards then also irrelevant? it can be done with a little effort and planning
Yes, l was making a point of how irrelevant Liverpool's situation is to ours. It's a dangerous place to let traffic drive through until the new bridge is installed, BMBC have done the right thing, its open for the other 340 days of the year.
From a car exiting carpark and football foot traffic point of view it will be more dangerous when the bridge is open. At the moment all foot traffic should be on the opposite side of the road to the carpark as both the ground and Schwäbisch Gmünd Way are on the same side of Pontefract road. When the bridge opens all football fans will have to cross Pontefract road right in front of the carpark to get to the bridge.
So plan around it - hold back for 10-15 minutes. Dangerous pulling into thousands but there are people at Anfield controlling the traffic flow
There's no reason for football fans to be anywhere near the entrance to market gate carpark anyway. Wrong side of the main road. But then as we all know from exiting Oakwell. Barnsley fans don't seem to know the highway code and think cars must stop for them as they jump out into main roads every week
Ash to tesco if its owt like the other bit they`ll be doing bits of it and not it all, near Greggs is like a ploughed field.
